  • I am about to open a Wine Store and I am at that point where almost all of the Predictable wines have been ordered.  Some of these wines are very good, nothing wrong with being on every other wine store.  However, I would love to be able to offer to my clients wines that are perhaps made on smaller quantities but of very good quality and both, a... • A few weeks ago there was a thread here on Snooth whose subject diverged into a short discussion on the merits of buying wines at Costco.  For those of you who are unfamiliar, Costco is a discount warehouse type of retail store.Yesterday, I was reading the current issue of Wine Spectator.  Behold and lo, on page 108, under "Best Buys" they assig... • Outside of the pricey boutique wineries, who do you think consistently produces good wine year-after-year and represents good value? I'm thinking of the "larger" more established wine makers, who try and bring their A-game across the spectrum of their varietals. To me the sign of a good wine maker and overall brand is someone who you can trust ev... • Okay, so I admit it:  I like to buy things for less than I think they are worth.  And what a great time for that in wine.  Wineries are unloading library wines and cutting prices, but there are even better deals to be had.  Wineries bottle up excess wine and sell it without a label to a broker who can't say exactly what it is, but can use the AV... • What are the "must-have-wines" when you visit a wine bar?  Or just stuff you'd really like to see. This can become tricky with "by-the-glass" stuff, because I imagine people can become quite cautious with a glass of wine above the $12 figure. Any insights?? Read More

  • What's the worst wine you have ever had? I had some Don Luciano Shiraz over the weekend (which is a $4.00 wine I picked up at Wal-Mart...just to see). I had had the Don Luciano Chardonnay and it was OK, but the Shiraz I had smelled like road kill (very heavy sulfur)--I wonder if I got a bad bottle.  Has anyone else tried it? Read More

  • This article does a good job informing us about the business of wine production in California. California wine-making country is on the decline and suffers from tighter margins.  There are quite a few wine-makers which were unable to weather the financial stress of 2008-2009 and are now defaulting, leading to distressed property values in the ar... • In gearing up for the holiday season, in the midst of the economic conundrum (white wine pun totally intentional...thanks Caymus) there are some great wine buys out there at the retail level. I picked up a couple of bottles of Wynn's Coonawarra Estate Shiraz 2005 tonight. Bottle price, $8.99. I can buy the case at a 15% discount, making it $7... Read More

  • Hi Everybody, this is my first post on here so go easy on me. Great forum BTWI would like to know peoples reasons on why they dislike Australian wine. At present I can see a collective conscience gathering rapidly where it has almost become trendy to bash Australian wine with the most common cliche being that they are "Alcoholic Fruit Bombs".tha...
