  • Château Pesquié Quintessence 2009

    Snoothrank:

The 2009 Quintessence is a fine wine with balanced, structured flavors of sage, eucalyptus and cherry and notes of smoke and spice on the nose. Elegant, smooth and still capable of a few more years in the bottle, this Ventoux is highly recommended - if you can find the vintage. Though somewhat different in style, better value than many Chateau... Read More

  • Chateau de Saint Cosme Chateauneuf du Pape 2009

    Snoothrank:

Murky dark plum color. Nose of dried fruit. Very serious hit of candied fruit on entrythink of a combination of cherry and apricot. Then a powdery sensation seems to cover my tongueprobably, from tannin. Back palate sensation is sour and, slightly, bitter. Overall, to me this wine is disjoint and not integrated. Read More

  • Les Grandes Serres Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2010

    Snoothrank:

The Grandes Serres 2010 has a signature CDP nose of crushed cherry and wild (red) berry confit - indicating a hefty proportion of Grenache Noir. The entry is soft with light tannin; flavours are a little to the blueberry spectrum with vanilla and a spot of cherry kirsch. Finish is quite long and satisfying. Drink now and over the next 3 years o... Read More

  • Last night was a good time and I'll consider it part of the weekend so I'm posting my details in this Weekend Wines topic.  We started off at the ENO Wine Bar, which is in Georgetown, Washington DC.  That was followed by a walk over to The Kennedy Center to attend a performance of "The Odyssey:  from Vietnam to America", which marks the 40th ann... • EM - Those steaks were covered with a home-made combination of herbs and spices ... ... a 2011 Domaine Mathieu Chateauneuf du Pape, but they brought me a 2012 bottle.  Once again we have a restaurant that isn't entirely truthful with their wine list.  However, it was a nice bottle and we think it paired well with the jumbo shrimp appetizer and... • Clos du Mont-Olivet Red Rhone Blend Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2008

    Snoothrank:

This 2008 (an average vintage) from the reputable Clos du Mont-Olivet has the usual confit scent of cherry, raspberry and a hint of latex. The wine is mature (2016) with a nice Southern Rhone entry of sage, raspberry, strawberry (for some people) and rubber (not in a bad way). Finish is warm, friendly and perfect for the lamb stews of southern... Read More

  • I was going to recommend Chianti or Montalcino--friends went there recently and ... ... to Avignon and going to Chateauneuf du Pape.  David Sharp at WineMine recently was there and had no trouble getting into some wineries.  Of course he's in the business, but he's a one-shop guy, doesn't do any importing, etc.  Not talking Chambers Street or ... • I'll be in Germany next week, and once I arrive I plan to drag my jet-lagged self to Alsace, France to tour a few wineries there (a couple hours from Frankfurt). BUT- I'm not really into white wines as much as reds, though I don't mind Gewurtzraminer and Dry Riesling. But I am thinking of taking a day off toward the end of the week. I can get pre... Read More
