Chateauneuf du Pape

The origin of the name Vieux Lazaret dates back to the 18th century when there existed in the centre of the village of Châteauneuf-du-Pape a hospice or Lazaret. This offered comfort and shelter for the poor and infirm, provided by the Lazarists; A silent order of monks founded in 1625 by St Vincent de Paul to look after the sick and the needy in the French countryside. The buildings fell into disuse and were sold by the Commune during the 19th century to the Quiot family and used as agricultural buildings. Being situated in the village of Châteauneuf-du-Pape and close to other properties owned by the Quiot family, these original buildings have today been extended and modernised, and now form the main centre of the agricultural activities of Vignobles Jérôme Quiot. This is largest estate in Chateauneuf du Pape covering over 250 acres in 35 different parcels, with consequent complexity of soil types. Up to date winemaking techniques coupled with rigorous selection produce harmonious wines of great generosity Read more »

    Snoothrank:

This bottle was part of a lot I bought on the website www.bidforwine.co.uk/auctions/show/64390 . Crozes-Hermitage is an AOC created in 1937 for wines north of Tain/Hermitage [ about 40 miles south of Lyon ] on the east bank of the Rhone, although wine production in the area goes back to before the Romans. It is much larger though less prestigious ... • Cotes du Rhone. It’s a surprisingly well known wine in a world where the ... all boats. The prices for Chateauneuf du Pape, the pinnacle of the Grenache based Rhone blends, have enjoyed a meteoric rise over the past decade. Driven by critical hype more than anything else as these are neither particularly rare wines, except among the explosive ... Read More

  • Caves Saint-Pierre Châteauneuf-du-Pape le Fiacre du Pape 2010

    Snoothrank:

Despite running it through an aerator and sitting in my glass for thirty minutes; this wine was tight. Good red fruit on the front end, nice acid balance and then some of the greenest tannins I've come across. By the second day the tannins had smoothed out a bit but not much. 87pts. Read More
