Floral and citrus fruit notes. The wine starts off bright with good acidity then rounds out a bit to a balanced medium body with just a little oak.

An amazing blend of Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvedre(Mataro,Monastrell) in a very classic style similar to Chateauneuf du Pape. I think they are sold out so pick one up if you enjoy Rhone blends.

I'm in a rut? So the Marsannay Blanc was pretty good, but the Marsannay rouge Clos du Roy (could be promoted to a 1er soon) was really rocking. Full bunches of stems, good ripe raspberry fruit, freshness to spare, just a hint of cola but I can look past that, and it gives this good crossover appeal. Really good, chalky tannins. I hope there's mo... Read More

Beautiful and spicy red fruit aromas leap out of the glass with baking spice, raspberry and licorice framed by touches of soft clay and powdered sugar. Gorgeous in the mouth and quite delicate on entry, this starts out soft, round and full of cherry and raspberry notes, then takes on a bit of an edge, showing tart strawberry, spice, cinnamon and... On and off with differing frequency mention is made on these boards of garnacha as a choice for certain palates, and in certain contexts. Most of the mention here is pretty generic, and doesn't get down to any level of detail.Would like to suggest we take up the subject of wines from this grape with better focus. Where is good, who makes the goo... Read More
Unless you bought them with aging potential in mind, a fair few of your 2013 pink and white wines won’t be drinkable by next spring. Guzzle down the last of those quick-to-turn bottles, cellar a few others, and ready yourself for the onset of fall wines. Even if you do not live in a starkly transitional climate, this a great time to think about ... Read More
"When the moon hits your eye/like a big pizza pie/that's amore."As we ate our breakfast on Sunday morning at the Imperial Hotel in Amador City, the soundtrack subtly changed. Last night at dinner and halfway through breakfast, the soundtrack was from the same era, but Sam Cooke sent us, and Ray Charles warned us about women. This morning, with... Read More
"While I appreciate what they (Tegan, Duncan Arnot-Meyers) are trying to do with Trousseau you just can't beat Jura.""That is where the Trousseau grape originated. I have not had it from anywhere else but it is a comparitively rare variety." It's more than that. Very close relative to chenin blanc and sauvignon blanc. Has hundreds of years of cu... Read More
Thought I'd start a topic to see what "different" wines people are drinking. I've been on a hunt to find wines made from lesser known grapes or from unusual areas. Here's one of each. This is a rose made from Cinsault, not too unusual right? Well this is from the Bekaa Valley in Lebanon. Either they don't make very good wine in Lebanon or this bo... Read More
Hello David, here's my two cents worth. Looking at fairly available Pinots and Chards that are in your price range, are fairly reliable and pretty decent quality for the price, I'd go with a Rodney Strong Chalk Hill Chardonnay and an A to Z pinot. As an alternative, M. Chapoutier makes a very nice white (Belleruche Cotes Du Rhone Blanc) and red... Read More
