Australia New Zealand Wines on SnoothJune 2013
I think the taxes are about the same here.I've never flown with that much wine, the excess baggage rates back from the UK are just too scary ... and driving isn't an option. I've joked in the past that you could drive to New Zealand if you made sure to keep your windows wound up for the bits where you were driving along the seabed but, uh, no ..... Read More

Help!Ok, ok...there's no crisis here in Dallas. However, I do have quandary. I just haven't developed an affinity for varietal New World pinot noir and I'm wondering what I'm missing. I'm looking for suggestions from you Snoothers.Keep in mind that I live in the Great (or Not So Great) State of Texas, where it's considerably more difficult to ac... Read More

Fellow wine lovers, I have recently initiated a wine blog which deals with people and their wine production in the local setting in different parts of Europe, South America, Australia/New Zealand and North America. The initial page is about our recent trip to the island of Madeira; soon to follow will be Navarra, Spain, and more extended tours o... Read More

So here's a question for all the ITB folks out there. With the change of the seasons, how heavily do you change your product mix? We all know that rosés are going to be big again this summer, and seem to be relegated to summer-time consumption. So stack-outs of affordable rosés are pretty much a given—but do you consider your entire product mix ... Read More

Somewhere i read that according to the quality of wine, the winemakers choose what kind of cork they are going to use ( when they decided to use corks instead of screwcaps or glass stoppers). The long corks, made of only one piece, we're reserved for the better wines, while the short, composite corks are used in the cheap ones. Is this truth??? Read More

Before I retired I did a stint as chairman of Hawkes Bay Vintners (all the wineries in Hawkes Bay) and was asked to write a short article for the local newspaper. All the wineries offered tasting of most of their wines and sometimes I felt, the public didn't really understand how enthusiastic winemakers were about their product."Lets do the wine... Read More

Cabernet Sauvignon is one of the most popular and widely planted red grape varietals in the world. Part of its attraction is that it has a distinctive and very recognizable taste no matter where it is grown—which is perhaps why today we can find it in just about any wine growing region which is reasonably warm. According to Jose Vouillamoz, a bo... Read More

I absolutely love wine. Snooth is one of the reasons I love the mystique of wine because it offers me a forum to discuss wine and all of it's nuances, it's history, it's wonder, it's character, it's beauty. I work very hard at my profession even though I have scaled it down to 3 days per week. After my work I love good food and love to imbibe i... Read More

My name is Phil. I am a new Chef fresh out of culinary school and IN LOVE with wine. However I don't know very much about wine and I am looking to learn as much as I can. As far as I have discovered so far I am usually a bigger fan of White Wines that are a nice balance of dry, sweet, and what i could describe as crisp tasting. I love Rieslings.... Read More

I'm rather new to wine. I've only had de-alcoholized red wines from Ariel and I've had some red and white wines with some relatives who really know their wine. I remember enjoying it very much. But recently I've gotten into wine on my own. I recently picked up some Yellow Tail Shiraz from a nearby Total Wine store. Specifically, I picked up a f... Read More
