  • Party two was up the road in Calistoga at the home of Merrill Lindquist of EMH Vineyards. One guest brought all the bubbles and we enjoyed them with crab cakes on the porch overlooking the vineyard. The Pommery was for me the freshest of the group.Very similar to the previous wine with a touch more yeastiness.Interesting Rosé with the color turni... • Hi All,Thanks for welcoming me to your discussion group (great and fun site). I found snooth because I was trying to read up on aging champagne and I happened on an interesting and informative thread. While the short of it is 21 years ago, almost to the day, I laid away several bottles of champagne and sort of forgot about them. There were store... Read More

  • Found some dreaded Seapage coming out of the capsule (the very top of the capsule there is one hole, and a drop of two evidently came out of there) top and while the bottom circumference of the capsule seemed okay, there might have been a drop or two that made it out of that area too.Had that feeling of shock and unreality as it is a pricey bott... • White wines are a summer classic, but it has been a long summer. There is a good chance that you are surfeit with white wine by now. Ultra-hip rosé and orange wines aren’t your only options. Be a true trendsetter and cozy up with a late summer red. Summer calls for diaphanous red wine grapes that allow fresh fruits to shine without the deep, dar... Read More

  • Yep, you're right DM - I left out fishing! Fishing was my favorite pastime throughout my teens and I'm just now picking it up again - after 30 years!  I can't believe how light the reels and rods have gotten! But back to wine and yes California, particularly in the Central Coast, gets little precipitation.  Many vineyards out there remain dry-far... • Hi, I'm Bruce.  I'm a UC Davis graduate of enology (26 years ago..alas) and have recently joined Snooth.  I was a former winemaker and enologist at two wineries on Long Island during the 1990s and am now semi-retired in Sarasota, FL.I'm still working in the wine trade, part-time in retail, but otherwise retired.  I'm still active in wine and eno... • For sure would have to update the look and functionality. Probably would swap out the slate flooring since it's not porous enough and can't help with the humidity, also is just plain too hard. Drop a bottle on brick and it might break. Drop a bottle on slate and it will break. Table and chairs redo. Maybe even stucco over the brick walls. Would ... Read More

  • I typically shy away from Pinot Noir, preferring more full bodied, dark & dense varieties. But I have had a couple Pinot's that knocked my socks off. In each case, these were made New World style with very concentrated extraction resulting in a fruity palette and dense mouth feel. But I don't recall what wines/vintages were like this.Would love t... Read More

  • Blast the gaps in back vintage stock! I've got a pretty big gap on all vintages prior to 2008.The 2011 Fenocchio Barolo's I tried last winter needed many hours in the decanter, and/or a two day situation to open. Since I bought nearly a case, and wasn't entirely happy with the first, wanted to crack another while visiting RF and it seemed to pre... Read More
