  • I would like to say I have read a lot of posts and find more of these fascinating than not. I have been trying to educate myself about wines, not because I indulge but because I have inherited some wine from my fathers estate and want to part with them, The research I have gathered is minimal and somewhat frustrating at times.I have some very ni... • I second OT's opinion.  I enjoy opening a bottle and having a sip or two, let it sit for a little and keep trying. I know for sure that most wines benefit from being open a while, but many need decanting to aid in oxidation. As OT said, it's also nice to see all the crud in the bottom of the decanter and not in your glass and mouth.  I guess it'... Read More

  • I double decanted two wines last night. Both had significant sediment. I do not like crunchies in my sip of wine or black specs in my smile. Decanting is a critical part of my wine enjoyment experience.Your Somm friend is full of merde. Some wines are so wound up upon opening that they require lots of air in order to show what they have. Here ar... Read More

  • I'm of the mind that decanting is a good thing. Especially with aged wines. I've decanted young wines anywhere from an hour to up to seven hours just to see how the structure would differ. And I've done the side-by-side comparisons to justify my insanity. However, I do realize, as in with stemware, that this may be an extremely subjective topic.... Read More

  • I'm looking for two wine suggestions for a dinner soon. First off, I'm looking to pair a bottle of red wine with a first course mi-cuit foie gras and second course pheasant, dauphine potato, chicory and parsnip. Hoping you guys have a good suggestion from my options. If none of the options are especially well-suited, what would you recommend? My... Read More

  • Long time lurker on both Snooth and Wine Berserkers. Why I decided to post now, I am not sure. Lover of California red wines particularly Zins and Cabs. Just getting into Pinots. Hate spending more than $50/ bottle. My comfort level is between $30-$40. Small wine cellar ( about 100 bottles) because we tend to drink what we buy.I do not feel that... Read More

  • We talked a lot about sparkling wine last week but there is a lot more to cover. The biggest sparkling wine day of the year, New Year's Eve, is right around the corner. Opening a bottle of sparkling wine can be a a dangerous proposition. There's a lot of pressure under that cork! But if you like living on the edge, there's always sabrage. When t... Read More

  • Oh, yeah, I drink Pamid all the time... no, really, never even heard of the grape.  Thracian wine, it's going to be huge in 2017.  Because someone will pay off the President and he'll sign an order requiring us to drink it.  And that Trump wine--honestly, you should have avoided that when the Kluges owned it, too.Okay, enough politics.  Been mea... • Yes, my name is a misnomer... I drink so much pinot (scm, Sonoma coast, etc) that I would probably test DNA positive for Dijon clones!I will find myself up valley for a brief visit soon.  I am wondering if anyone knows some nice wineries  or wine bars to visit off season.  I know some might be closed. I am NOT into the big tour/experience. Just ... Read More

  • I love a good value when it comes to sparkling wine, but there are so many occasions that warrant higher price points. In fact, purpose is the single most important part of any sparkling wine purchase. Is it a romantic affair or a graduation? Is it Thanksgiving or a retirement party? Will you be present when the bottle is opened? Generally speak... Read More
