  • Were those cases stashed for posterity or just forgotten? Let's see, in 1978, I moved from California to MA.  The Red Sox and Yankees had a one game playoff.  Bucky Dent hit a home run to win it for the Yanks.  Keith Moon died that fall.  Earlier in the year there was a big blizzard in Boston.  (Part of how we came to live there.)  I crossed the... • Al, Roederer Estate is a HUGE production wine.  BevMo and TotalWine should have it.  The Hermitage is the grand cuvee and a good value as well, but around $45 vs. $20 or less for the regular. Not going to post photos at this late date, but our NYE wines were a Prosecco called Italian Fox that I bought for the obvious silly reason.  It was pretty... • Shsim, nice to see you dropping in.  I mentioned that Fonseca Periquita a while back in my Iberian wine discovery thread. We were away on family business for a week, so that slowed down my buying.  I did manage to come back and find some more of this $5 Montepulciano di Abbruzzo that has become my go-to pizza wine.  Good with red sauced pasta, t... • I've enjoyed their wines for many years - mostly chardonnay, it is full of apple, a little nutiness, with hints of rose petal and great acidity.  at 11% alc it's not overbearing and has a very satisfying finish that has good length. Read More

  • Sorry these are late, couldn't find the charging station for my camera.  So...New Years Eve:Our midnight celebration, our dog usually goes in when it gets really cold, but he stayed put with us till we went in.  Sorry the cooking pics didn't turn out - using the metal rat guard really helps in the winter. Some of the wines:The '09 Puerto Alicante... • This was a New Years Eve leftover - not much though - in fact just about every other Prosecco I've had has been better. But we must be kind to others. No comment on this. Read More

  • Just picked up my Invino shipment of the 2007 Valduero Reserva from FedEx this afternoon.  Normally I would let these lovely wines from the Ribera del Duero region sit a bit, but hey, we wanted to taste this wine.  I bought these upon the recommendation of MJET, who noticed them and remembered that during our recent Cuba vacation, we drank a bot... • Quevedo Lbv Port 2011

    Snoothrank:

At last, Naked Wines is offering Ports. Inky opaque, Red Purple in the Glass. Opens with Spices, Peppercorns, and a bit of yeast; on to dried Plum and a bit of smoky Alcohol. Silky mouthfeel and long finish of stewed fruits, Raisin and Currant. Most definitely a LBV Ruby Port and good everyday Port. Would like to try this along side of a Grahams... Read More

  • Domaine les Pallieres Gigondas 2006

    Snoothrank:

I bought this bottle of wine for £13.50 from the website www.bidforwine.co.uk/auctions/show/105772. Gigondas is an appellation created in 1971,although wine production in the area goes back to before the Romans, for red and rose wines from around the village of that name in the southern Rhone valley. My bottle of red Gigondas comes from a well kno... • Ken Hock Exit 43 California Bollicine In Bianco 2014

    Snoothrank:

A recent Naked Wines selection. A delightful little number. Opens with sparkly yeast lemon lime and stays there. Very bright, nice acidity, and loads and loads of bubbles. Had this alone and then as part of a French 75 and as part of a Mexican 75 with a bit of St. Germain - terrific every which way. Angel Price point of $15 - outstanding. Read More
