  • A&r Shiraz Viognier 2014

    Snoothrank:

A recent Naked Wines selection. A deep opaque Garnet Red in the Glass. Not a big nose, but opens with a mint and roasted cherry/cranberry; a bit of brown sugar, herbs, pepper, and tomato leaf. Medium soft mouthfeel; minimal tannins with more black & white pepper, leather, and tobacco. Opens a bit more and then cherry plum. Though a bit thinner t... Read More

  • Quevedo Lbv Port 2011

    Snoothrank:

At last, Naked Wines is offering Ports. Inky opaque, Red Purple in the Glass. Opens with Spices, Peppercorns, and a bit of yeast; on to dried Plum and a bit of smoky Alcohol. Silky mouthfeel and long finish of stewed fruits, Raisin and Currant. Most definitely a LBV Ruby Port and good everyday Port. Would like to try this along side of a Grahams... Read More

Opening a bottle of sparkling wine can be a a dangerous proposition. There's a lot of pressure under that cork! But if you like living on the edge, there's always sabrage. When t... Read More

  • I love a good value when it comes to sparkling wine, but there are so many occasions that warrant higher price points. In fact, purpose is the single most important part of any sparkling wine purchase. Is it a romantic affair or a graduation? Is it Thanksgiving or a retirement party? Will you be present when the bottle is opened? Generally speak... Read More

  • A couple of ways to look at this pre-Christmas offer:1) why spend any money on Napa reds when you can get these bottles, aged for you already, at these prices?2) you can put together your own Produttori del Barbaresco verticals that'd knock the socks off the Valkyrie serving wenches pouring at the tables in Valhalla.  Barbaresco from the Big Cel... • Finding myself a little more curious as to what's going on at this price point lately, with neighbors looking to me for advice, and I did hear BLM's call recently as well.So two regions came to mind, not only for reasonable pricing, but for good overall quality potential. The Languedoc in the South of France, and Etna Rosso from the volcanic soi... Read More

As were the food pairings...Simple Pizza/Pancake for the Champagne - Clos des GoissesSome Salmon sashimi w/ the 66' Bollinger. Some life left, but it was a case of the 99' Clos des Goisses being a little young, and the 66' Bollinger a little too old... Read More

  • EM - Yes, the self-imposed wine-buying moratorium is not in effect when my spousal unit is with me.  Maybe I should drag her over to Total Wine since I have another 20% discount coupon.Another busy weekend; we attended a double opera last night (The Seven Deadly Sins & Pagliacci) at George Mason University, but prior to that we dined at The Wine... • Thanks for the update with regard to the Finger Lakes region.  When I want a decent tasting wine for a low price, I look for the Spanish wines in the wine shop.  I haven't had good luck with Trader Joe's lately.  I tasted this $6.99 Trader Joe special a few nights ago and it was horrible.  My wife tasted it and agreed.  I poured the remaining 3/...
