  • Okay, so I admit it:  I like to buy things for less than I think they are worth.  And what a great time for that in wine.  Wineries are unloading library wines and cutting prices, but there are even better deals to be had.  Wineries bottle up excess wine and sell it without a label to a broker who can't say exactly what it is, but can use the AV... • *If you have zero interest in reading about a Brooklyn Wine Shop then feel free to dismiss the thread. I figured that there would be enough NYers and/or transients on the board to make this a worthwhile post.I’m the last guy to champion my local retailers. Why, you ask? Because they stink…well, that’s not fair- they’re dirty and unimaginative an... Read More

First had this at a high end Italian eatery in KC, MO and was very impressed since it was one of their cheaper bottles on the wine list. Nice touch of oak, smooth tannins with a long finish. Very pleasing with any Italian food. Found it on sale at a local store for only $8.99. Drinks like it cost 2X that. Bulk buy if you like Italian reds. Read More

Very nice wine for the money! It is very similar to a Ripassa. My local wine store had a few bottles and can't get anymore. I would buy a case for basic drinking wine. I found it online for 15.99 plus shipping. Madison, WI. Read More

Just opened a 375ML bottle a few minutes ago. July 26, 2010. Very fruity and fragrant red wine. Hints of blueberry, strawberry, and red currants. Light acidity, light tannin. Very nice tasting wine. I'm glad I bought 2 bottles at the 99 cent store. I was afraid it would be corked, now I wish I would've bought more. So, technically, 1 bott... Read More

  • For several years now, I've been tipping 10% on bottles of wine and 20+% on food (depending on service).  I feel no more effort is exerted by the servers if I'm drinking a $200 bottle of wine than they would for a $30 bottle. So, why should they, by simple math, profit from one of the highest price point items in the restaurant?  Seems going to ... Read More
