  • R7 and I have the same outlook.  I have, once in a while, opened a bottle right after it got shipped and been let down.  Since I have lots of wine stores nearby and plenty of wine on hand, what's the harm in waiting?  If the wine shipped more than 500 miles, I probably cared a lot about it, so I let it sit for 3 months minimum.  Cheap instate st... • I posted this as a reply to another thread about travel shock, but that thread never got bumped up to the front page, for some reason. Guess I'll have to start a new topic, as my curiosity remains unsatiated. So I've done my reading on the subject (http://www.wineloverspage.com/dibbern/shock07.phtml, et al) but I'm looking for any anecdotal evide... • Hendry Vineyards Zinfandel Block 7 & 22 2011

    Snoothrank:

Lots of blackberry fruit on introduction to the palate. Then there is alcoholic heat. Towards the back of the palate there is an annoying sourness. I like acidic tartness, but this sourness is just not pleasant. In a few more glasses Ill probably have enough alcohol in me to totally blunt my senses, and this wine will then become OK. Read More

  • Great experience Mark. I wish you lived next door as well! ;)Tonight I am drinking part of my harvest paycheck from this past fall. Still quite young, is a PS ever considered old?, it has a lots of rich blackberry aromas and the fruit flies in the kitchen are going nuts as well as driving me nuts. The more air it gets the more the oak shows on t... Read More

  • While the world – France included – was pushing for the end of World War II, some of Europe's finest winemakers were, like the vines they meticulously nurtured, fighting through tough social soil to create something transcendent. The result, at least according to a recent auction by London-based auction house Bonhams, speak for themselves – a 12... • As a wine consumer I love to read about others experiences with wine, but one of the most frustrating things is when you read about a great wine that you simply cannot find. With over 100,000 different wines made every year and at best only a few thousand of those making it on to your local stores' shelves, searching down a specific wine can be ... Read More

  • Made a trip to Pahrump Nevada today to play a round of golf with my friends at Mountain Falls GC. Amazing course! Rated #1 in Nevada and the #7 public course in America. Who would have thought a course that nice could be located smack dab in the middle of basically no-mans land.Because the trip is 45 minutes from Vegas, I decided to visit the wi... Read More

  • The cork was horrible. The wine should have been spoiled but it was not. In fact it is very good. My wife who is more critical than I am also pronounced it excellent. My question to the experts is why?No expert here but why should the wine have been spoiled?1995 is an excellent year for Napa/Sonoma and those wines should be quite fine today, pro... Read More

  • "what besides cabs and chards have you tried lately"Don't know Vino - since Thanksgiving I've had one Chard and 7 Cabs, which is kind of high on the Cab side but my wife likes those. Had far more Tempranillo, which isn't an unusual grape, as well as more Syrah, Garnacha, Mencia, Nebbiolo and oddly, Mourvedre, and then the odd Harslevelu and Trep... Read More
