The state of Wisconsin is actually the original American home to the Hungarian born Father of the California Wine Industry, the legendary Agoston Haraszthy. Before leaving for California in the middle of the 19th century, Haraszthy was a key figure in the early settlements of Wisconsin and a very successful farmer and businessman here. Haraszthy did plant the first wine grapes in the state, but frustration with the difficult Midwest climate refocused him on making his fortune with hops and grains. Would that he could see the renewal of winegrowing interest in Wisconsin today. Today Wisconsin is home to about a dozen wineries, most making a combination of grape and fruit wines. Despite there being an official AVA (Lake Wisconsin AVA) in the state, only a few producers actually grow their own or make wine from locally grown grapes, most opting to bring in grapes from California, Washington, and New York States. • It was very warm yesterday, well very warm for Wisconsin, so we decided to bbq and not drink anything to heavy. So we went lemon chicken, built a small fire and wrapped some red potatoes up and baked them in it and a fruit salad.  And these:This was good - great aromas of strawberry, raspberry, a little citrus followed to the palate with a crisp... • I saw that list when it first came - for some it's a badge of honor.  There are a lot of people that blame it on the large German heritage and customs.  Me - I think that thinking is outmoded and they just like to drink to drink - anything, but especially beer."Not wine per se" - Some of those are not what we'd buy on a regular basis, or for som... • Actually the Matambre/Chimichurri is already planned - it's a favorite here.  I really like the recipe and if I can I might - think it would be better for me to try that with a smaller group first.  I've already kicked in the amount of money that I saved last year for this so a smaller group would be better.Besides I like to cook and drink wine ...
