Columbia County is within the Hudson River Valley in New York. While the Hudson River Valley is a historic wine-producing region, Columbia County is fairly new on the scene. Hudson-Chatham Winery is its first commercial vineyard, open since 2007. Since then, a handful of others are starting to crop up. The cool climate is well suited for North American/French hybrids such as Seyval Blanc and Baco Noir, as well as Gewürztraminer, Riesling, Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir. Wineries also offer fruit wines such as plum wine, liqueurs such as Cassis, and ciders.

Columbia County on Snooth

  • Spring Valley Vineyard Uriah 2013

    Snoothrank:

The wine is a deep ruby color in the glass, with a nose of leather, black cherry and a hint of mint. The taste is just lovely, with a rush or ripe fruit up front, blackberry, cherry and plum that transitions effortlessly to some lovely mineral notes of dusty limestone and dried herbs midpalate. The finish is quite nice, with soft tannins that ... Read More

  • Tero Estates Tero Cabernet Sauvignon-Walla Walla Valley Walla Walla Valley 2009

    Snoothrank:

The wine is a deep, inky purple in the glass, with a subdued garnet tint along the edges. The nose is just a dream, wonderful notes of leather, cedar, a hint of peat and some peppery spice notes, just the ideal combination of aromas that I've come to love in a good Washington wine. The taste is a rush of rich fruit, sweet cherry, black plum an... Read More

    Snoothrank:

The wine is a deep purple color at the center with a bright ruby along the edges, just what you'd expect from a high-quality Cabernet. The nose is just a breath of ripe berries and earthy leather and oak, that just brings back memories of autumn (lucky it's still spring, I just checked!). The taste is a rush of ripe berries, blackberry, marion... Read More

The nose is a great combination of green grass and ripe black fruit, for a perfect springtime red wine. The taste is quite nice, with some nice blackberry and raspberry flavors up front that transitions to some lovely green spice notes of ... Read More

  • Songbird Lyrical Red 2014

    Snoothrank:

Precept Wine in Seattle created this blend of Syrah (60%) and Merlot using fruit from breathtaking Wallula Vineyard in the Horse Heaven Hills and Willard in the Yakima Valley. A light hand with oak allows for a nose of black cherry, red currant and cola with whiffs of anise and tar. Theres pleasing balance to its lighter structure thats focused ... Read More
