Shenandoah Valley (Virginia) Wine

The "Original" Shenandoah Valley ava, located in Virginia (as opposed to the Shenandoah Valley in California) is located on the "other side of the mountain" from Virginia's most reknown central region entitled the "Monticello" AVA, so-called for the home of Thomas Jefferson which is located in the center of the region. The Shenandoah Valley of Virginia is the most rapidly growing wine-producing region in the state with new vineyards and wineries popping up as quick as one turns his/her head. Here is a list of the current wineries located along the Shenandoah Valley Wine Trail: I highly encourage a visit to the region as they are truly producing some of the best wines in ALL of Virginia, let alone on the Atlantic Coast. They're ample use of newer, hybrid varietals, such as Chambourcin and Seyval Blanc has also stirred excitement among travellers and tasters alike, and the climate is proving every bit as bountiful for Virginia's white staple varietal Read more »

Seriously do none of you people have taste buds? Sweet Mountain Laurel my ass, it's more like nasty fermented dog piss if you ask me. I think the dog on the label is where they get this distintive flavor from. My mother insisted that this was the best wine she had ever had and asked every time we talked if I had tried it yet. So one weekend ... Read More

I like the spicy flavor and I can taste the foxy American grapes. This is not your typical koolaid desert wine. It does not taste like a syrupy concoction of fruit. Drink it at room temp, it does not get harsh. It has a very unique spice that my have as many lovers and haters. I personally love it and find this unusual spicy, cherry flavor ... Read More

  • Currently studying in Virginia, I've had the pleasure of vineyard hopping in the Shenandoah Valley. While eager to support my local economy and join the ranks of Virginia wine lovers, I have noticed something rather unpleasant about nearly all the Virginia reds I've tasted. Every one of them smells of damp gym bags. I kid you not. I feel lik... Read More
