Texas Hill Country Wine

True to Texan tradition, this AVA is the second largest certified Viticultural Area in America. With well over 9 million acres in the heart of Texas, it is no wonder that other more specific AVA’s, such as Bell Mountain and Fredericksburg, have been identified as unique microclimates within this blanket AVA. The wines of this massive region, north of San Antonio and west of Austin, range from Bordeaux blends to Italian varietals, as well as cool climate grapes such as Riesling. This is a quality wine producing region and the wines have won numerous awards both at home and internationally. – Description from Appellation America (view original content)

Texas Hill Country on Snooth

  • Becker Vineyards Gewurztraminer 2011

    Snoothrank:

Light bodied with delicate flavors. Semi-sweet with a quick, abrupt finish. Hints of rose and peach. Read More

  • Becker Vineyards Canada Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2009

    Snoothrank:

One of two reserve cab sauvignons from Becker, the other coming from Newsom Vineyard. More playful and fruit forward than their flagship cab Raven. Raspberry with other red berries dominate with a slight hint of young tannins. Needs some aging. Read More

  • Becker Vineyards Raven 2009

    Snoothrank:

Considered the flagship wine of the winery. Notes of chocolate and caramel linger in this medium to heavy bodied cab. Dry with bold tannins and substantial American Oak. Slight hint of coffee. Very good cab but hard to spend $40 on it. Read More

  • Becker Vineyards Culinaria 2010

    Snoothrank:

Subtle taste but a distinct black olive characteristic. Dry tannins but a quick finish. An attempt to mimic the classic French wines for St. Emilion that falls short. Read More

  • Becker Vineyards Claret 2009

    Snoothrank:

Extremely well blended and balanced. Dry with a mouth full of young tannins begging to be aged. Bordeaux style with hints of chocolate and strong oak. Read More

  • Becker Vineyards Zinfandel

    Snoothrank:

I have had the 2003 vintage of this Zin and was not as impressed this time around. A bit uneven liquorice taste dominates the palate. Bold yet simple. Might do well with some aging. Read More

  • Becker Vineyards Reserve Tempranillo 2010

    Snoothrank:

Of the 10+ wines I tasted during my trip to this winery this is the one I walked out the door with. Strong beginning with dark cherries and strawberry that evolves slowly into a palate with hints of mocha and a lingering finish. Very well constructed and balanced. Read More

  • Becker Vineyards Prairie Rotie 2010

    Snoothrank:

Clever and fun play on words. Hard to live up to a true Cote Rotie but does have subtle notes of white pepper. Hints of earth and soil but not quite to the terrior of the classic Rhone syrah. Read More

  • Becker Vineyards Reserve Roussanne 2010

    Snoothrank:

Slight hints of jasmine and hazelnut on the nose. Citrus palate that is reminiscent of a Sauvignon Blanc. Mild and subtle taste with a quick finish. Read More

  • Becker Vineyards Viognier 2011

    Snoothrank:

Medium to full bodied with a underlying peach note. Grassy, with a fresh citrus backing. Young with room to sit. Read More
