Sonoma; Napa on Snooth

  • A ridiculous number of trigger pullworthies in this new offering, many in their absolute drinking prime. Wish the shop was just down the street from me, rather than the ones that are. But then I'd have to live in NYC.  ;-(I love it when a guy drops 100 cases on a shop, just to 'make some space" in his cellar. Wonder what's going to be filling th... Read More

  • Why is Freemark Abbey even on the list? Is is 1976 again?LOL!  GregT only wishes so he could go to a fern bar.. LOL! RE: article-  Agreed, OT.  I was just heartened to see Scholium and Soliste on there when pretty much no one else knows who they are.In no way did it say this was in rank order, but rather the aggregate. Here's more to explain tex... • This article is going on my list of "Top 10 Reasons Lists Are Ridiculous."Gotta laugh at the Acorn entry.  It's okay wine, where the winemaking is done by Clay Mauritson with grapes vastly inferior to what he has access to in Rockpile.  I can name a dozen better wineries in Dry Creek than that one, and yet there it is.  The prices aren't any bet... • Sonoma doesn't have a ton, but many Central Coast wineries make it as a stand alone (which is what they do in France, where it's from, y'know).  Calera, Melville, Au Bon Climat, Roar, Jaffurs all do one and Qupe does a few.  Then there's Bonterra in Mendo, Cristom in OR, Darioush and Joseph Phelps in Napa. K&L has a bunch more. I saw another hal... Read More

  • We found the Pinots from Oregon (Willamette Valley) were some of the best we've ever tasted, although the Pinots from Sonoma are certainly right up there in taste.  However, my favorite Pinot Noir was from Anderson Valley, and it wasn't GoldenEye.  It was from the Roederer Estate - a winery known for making sparklers.  We can't find any of their... • Oy.. Julia.. funny thing.  When I started on Snooth back in 2009, I was into Napa Cabs  (I still appreciate them!)  But I am now truly Sonomagirl!  I love pinot... sonoma coast for the most part, russian river, etc.  I also love Rhone varietals...   Mourvedre, Cinsault,  other red or white blends..  I drink rose, many white blends, syrahs that l... • After Willamette, on your way down the coast, you should take it very slow and spend some time once you hit Mendocino. Then the Sonoma Coast. Only then Napa. It's kinda like driving from San Fran down to Disneyland, Napa being that. The best part of the trip is Big Sur and Santa Barbara and Malibu, which in my parallel are the other wine regions ... Read More

  • Last night got a little serious. Started out simply enough with just me and a regional development consultant at a local bistro, catching up while sharing a range of starters along with a house chard and a bottle of Produttori del Barbaresco Langhe nebbiolo--always a reasoned and satisfying choice when there's no intention of getting too serious... • "Does it beat the 2008 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon from Silver Oak?"Would I be too harsh if I said by all the country miles between Sonoma and Norfolk?  ;-)But then we'd have to start talking about styles of wine we appreciate or don't.... Read More

  • OK, I confess.  I have posted a couple times in the last few weeks that I am on a SIWBM because the house is a mess with a remodeling appearance.  Then, I get a coupon for 20% off on all Chardonnays at Total Wine.  One of the residents of our household is more a white wine drinker than a red wine drinker, and in the last year she (oops, I gave i...
