is both the home and the leader of the modern viticultural movement in Oregon. In 1966, David Lett of the Eyrie Vineyards planted the state’s first Pinot Noir vines in the Red Hills of Dundee. It was the start of a love affair with the ‘heartbreak grape’ that has dominated Yamhill County vineyards ever since. Now home to more than 80 wineries, Yamhill County also has a number of distinct microclimates tucked into a series of hills jutting from the Coast Mountain range. Many of these distinct microclimates have recently been granted AVA status. This has only served to enhance the county’s image as the North American leaders in the promotion of distinct terroir. – Description from Appellation America (view original content)

  • Domaine Drouhin Edition Rose of Pinot Noir 2013

    Snoothrank:

Really nice Rose of Pinot Noir from Domaine Drouhin. Crisp bright red cherry, a touch of melon, some not too ripe strawberry, a good hit of acidity and a medium finish. Last of all of our 2013 rose, good way to end the vintage. Read More

  • Hamacher Pinot Noir Oregon 2010

    Snoothrank:

Pretty good Willamette pinot. Bright red and crushed black cherry, nice acidity, a touch of smoke and a decent finish. The finish is of medium length and the tannins are a bit grainy for pinot. Read More

  • Eyrie Vineyards Dundee Hills Pinot Gris 2012

    Snoothrank:

Just a fantastic Willamette pinot gris! First hint is of apricot which is quickly followed by not so ripe peach. Nice acidity carries some lemon lime to the mid and back of the tongue. Fairly complex for a pinot gris, one of the all time QPR leaders. Read More

  • Kudos Pinot Noir Yamhill-Carlton District Willamette Valley 2012

    Snoothrank:

Nice, light to medium bodied Oregon pinot noir. Decent acidity, good black cherry, rhubarb, dark plum and dried prune overtones with a fairly long finish. Good but not great in that there aren't a lot of layers, just a straight forward dark fruit front end. Read More

  • Domaine Drouhin Arthur Chardonnay 2012

    Snoothrank:

One of the best chardonnay's in the mid $30 ($35 at the winery) range we've had. Creamy lemon pith, a slight touch of oak, a bit of minerality, wonderful smooth tongue coating mouthfeel, decent amount of acidity and a medium to long finish. Read More

  • Kramer Vineyards Pinot Noir Rose 2013

    Snoothrank:

Very satisfying sparkler from one of Willamette's oldest wineries. Pink rose color with wild strawberry, tart cherry, decent acidity and a medium finish. This is not real dry but not sweet either, it walks a fine line between both, quite enjoyable. Read More
