Oregon; Washington Wine

Columbia Valley, Willamette, Red Mountain, Yamhill, Yakima, Champoux, Klipsun, Ciel, Eola Hills, Walla Walla--these are names recognized for luscious wines rich in fruit, lower in acidity, and lovely in balance. Since land is less expensive, expect more wine for a dollar spent than for counterparts from California. Long Shadows wines, Col Solare and Ethos, all Washington-outside expert collaborations, offer some prime examples of NW wines at their best. – Description from easterner1

  • Trip summary of Columbia Gorge and more...Phelps Creek: Don't be put off that this winery is a bit off the beaten path and located at a golf course. They make 6 whites, merlot, syrah, pinot and a sparkling wine--about 5,00 cases total. The winemaker (female) is French. That combined with some New Zealand experience makes a leaner style wine, low... Read More

  • Duncan 906, we did visit Thomas Jefferson's house (Monticello) a few years ago (Oct 2014) when my sister was visiting from Oregon (USA).  It's an amazing house, with all sorts of inventions incorporated into the structure.  Thomas even had both a wine cellar and a beer cellar, so he knew how to live life to it's fullest.  The house is about a 2-... • JD - Oregon Nebbiolo reminds me of Cana's Feast.  They are an Oregon winery that makes most of their wine from Washington grapes.  I think they do a really nice job with Italian varieties.  They make a Nebbiolo with grapes sourced from Ciel du Cheval on Red Mountain. And DM, I agree - the vineyard and grower also has a lot to do with the quality... • Covey Run Riesling Quail 2010

    Snoothrank:

Very dry, acidic, and bitter Riesling - we didn't care for it. It paired okay with roasted chicken and vegetables, but a Chardonnay would better taken the place anywhere this Riesling could have worked. We'll definitely not be buying this again in the future. • Has anyone tried Buty's Semillion-Sauvignon-Muscadelle blend (2008)? If you can find it, give it a shot. I haven't had a better white from the Pacific Northwest.
