for this region?

The state of Massachusetts hosts more than a dozen wineries, scattered from its western end to the coastal areas south of Boston, as well as on Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket islands. Grape growing in the state is concentrated on coastal lands within the Southeastern New England AVA. In other parts of the state, fruit wines are more common and grape wines are often made from fruit imported from other parts of the U.S. The cold-climate conditions make French-American hybrid varieties like Seyval, Vidal, and Marechal Foch popular choices with growers. But some important producers have exclusively vinifera programs, focusing on varieties like Chardonnay, Gewürztraminer, Pinot Gris, and Pinot Noir. Given the growing conditions and varieties, it is not surprising to find excellent, Traditional Method sparkling wines made in the state. – Description from Appellation America (view original content)

Massachusetts on Snooth

  • Andrew Murray Syrah Tous les Jours Santa Ynez Valley 2012

    Snoothrank:

Intense and complex on the nose with cracked black pepper, violet, roasted beef, hints of mushroom and root beer and a lovely, funky, gamy base notes. Bright on entry even if this lacks a touch of acids. A fairly big wine with wonderfully fresh flavors of black fruit, hints of currants and plums, with savory almost peppery accent notes and deep... • Speri Valpolicella Classico Superiore la Roverina 2011

    Snoothrank:

Smells less fresh though more complex than the straight valpolicella. The wood here is obvious but well integrated, and tones down the violet aromas, inching the fruit towards black berry with darker cherry shadings. A touch smoky, light but fairly fullish bodied for a lighter styled wine, there's power here and a little creaminess. The acid is... Read More

  • Tommasi Valpolicella Classico Superiore Vigneto Rafael 2011

    Snoothrank:

Spicy on the nose, and redolent of small wild flowers wrapped around blue and black fruits. Supple and broad on the palate, this really reaches from side to side of the mouth with attractively aromatic blue floral inner mouth perfumes, a hint of something candied and minty and then a core of slightly wild plummy, extract of wild cherry fruit. T... Read More

  • M. Chapoutier Grenache Blend Côtes du Roussillon Villages Latour Domaine de Bila-Haut Vignes Bila 2010

    Snoothrank:

This is a very nice Rhone blend of syrah, grenache and carignan. Very well balanced with the blackberry and dark red cherry from the syrah coming to the forefront. This has soft, fine tannins, decent acidity, a touch of earthiness and a medium length finish. Excellent QPR! Read More

  • Delas Cotes du Ventoux 2012

    Snoothrank:

Tight on the nose and not terribly impressive but what is there shows a blackberry jam edge and cinnamon spice notes and vanilla/powdered sugar accents. Bright, attractively lean and energetic in the mouth. This is not a rich wine, though it does deliver lovely, tense sour cherry and raspberry fruit on the palate. theres lively acidity here and... • Klinker Brick Zinfandel Lodi 2011

    Snoothrank:

Aged in 100% American oak Big, slightly musky oak filled aromas of loamy soil, toasted oak and sweet mulberry fruit that is a little jammy and caramel driven greet the nose. Vanilla and charry wood flavors are followed by a big, plump mouthful of jammy red fruits in the mouth. Big, and bold and spicy, this shows a bit of aggressive wood on the ... Read More
