Clarksburg is an emerging wine region within the Central Valley district of California. It actually spans parts of three counties: Yolo, Sacramento and Solana. The fertile area benefits from cool, coastal winds and fog off the San Francisco Bay and rich soil, slow draining soil.

It’s a relatively new wine region, reaching AVA status in 1984. Most of the grapes grown in the region are sold to outside facilities for blends. But it is still known for its Petite Syrah, Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay. ~Amanda Schuster

The Chenin comes from Clarksburg, the Viognier from the estate.Next up was a pinot grigio, a wine that can be insipid in California and plenty of other places.  Not the case here.  This variant was crisp, acidic, refreshing, mineral, and had hints of lemon pith and grapefruit.  Sign m... • The Stringer California Chardonnay 2013

    Snoothrank:

A Lot 18 quarterly selection. Pear and peach with nutmeg and allspice as it opens. More peach and pear. Fruit forward Chardonnay with minimal oak and very light body and light acidity. Nothing that special, though at the price point would suspect this one compares very favorably with others in this price. Read More

  • David Akiyoshi Cabernet Sauvignon Clarksburg California 2013

    Snoothrank:

A Naked Wines offering. Opens with spice and herbs and becomes more toffee, pear, and licorice. Soft and balanced and for a Cabernet with more fruit than oak - definitely not an 'Oak Monster'. As it opens more, bits of green chile and shortbread and a very interesting hint of pine. Feels more Old World to me, nuanced, but still young. Will want ... Read More

  • Bogle Merlot California 2012

    Snoothrank:

2012 vintage Bogle Merlot. Pleasant cherry nose. Overpowering acid on the palate. Seems a bit viney tannins as if they included the hard press into the wine.I much prefer the smoothness of a Maggio Family Vineyards Lodi Merlot. Read More
