Clarksburg is an emerging wine region within the Central Valley district of California. It actually spans parts of three counties: Yolo, Sacramento and Solana. The fertile area benefits from cool, coastal winds and fog off the San Francisco Bay and rich soil, slow draining soil.

It’s a relatively new wine region, reaching AVA status in 1984. Most of the grapes grown in the region are sold to outside facilities for blends. But it is still known for its Petite Syrah, Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay. ~Amanda Schuster

  • Pine Ridge Chenin/Viognier 2013

    Snoothrank:

Ripe pear with floral notes on the nose. Nice acidity and ripe fruit sweetness with a clean soft finish. Paired well with the spice meatballs my daughter brought for Christmas. Read More

  • Bogle Merlot California 2012

    Snoothrank:

2012 vintage Bogle Merlot. Pleasant cherry nose. Overpowering acid on the palate. Seems a bit viney tannins as if they included the hard press into the wine.I much prefer the smoothness of a Maggio Family Vineyards Lodi Merlot. Read More

  • Bogle Merlot California 2012

    Snoothrank:

$8.99 at Trader Joe's. 2012 vintage. A little higher acid on first opening, but aerates into a very fruity, bold wine. Overripe cherries, strawberries, some blackberry. For those looking for a full-bodied, deep, complex wine, the 2012 Bogle Cab hit a better note, but I would definitely buy this wine again. Would serve to guests. Read More

  • Bogle Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

    Snoothrank:

Bold, full-bodied, low tannins, sweet smelling, tastes of dark fruit - dark cherry, ripe plums, ripe blackberries - very juicy and delicious. Hints of dark chocolate, paired perfectly with 70% cacao. For the price, this is a fantastic wine - better than Cabs I've had from Napa that cost 4X as much. Flavors evolve as you let it aerate. Found this... Read More

  • Welcome.  Nice to have a voice from California wine country outside the ... big fan of Dancing Coyote in Clarksburg--the wines are good, the prices really reasonable, and they use grapes that are a little outside the California mainstream, like Albarino.  I also really like the wines of Easton/Domaine de la Terre Rouge (zin under the former la... • So far I have become a member at the Clarksburg Winery. They had a good Chenin Blanc which is one of the white wines I really like (and it is local and I like to support local business).  I then joined Draconis. They specialize in Zins and Syrah's. I tasted before I knew what they cost, about $30-50, which is more then I would normally spend unl... Read More

  • Sounds great... I have not visited there yet.  What wineries do you like in Clarksburg?  I assume Zin and Syrah?  Do they have any nice whites there?  I like whites and roses, as well as lighter reds... for the most part. Read More
