Description 1 of 1

Yolo County is an emerging wine region within the Central Valley district of California. The Sacramento River Delta provides a channel for cooling winds, making it the coolest region in Central Valley. It’s further divided into subregions, and the majority of the vineyards are located in the ones closest to the delta to the east, within the Clarksburg and Merritt Island AVA’s. But pioneering winemakers, such as John and Lane Giguiere, who founded R.H. Phillips winery, promote the warm weather conditions in the Dunnigan Hills and Capay Valley.

The warm weather climate is most conducive to varietals such as Syrah, Merlot, Zinfandel, Petite Syrah, Tempranillo. White grapes grown are Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Chenin Blanc. ~Amanda Schuster
