Lots of oak on the nose--I have the feeling that this is one of those California Chardonnays that everybody now loves to hate--some hints of pineapple. Just got my zin futures from Fred and couldn't resist tasting both the Shale Terrace and the Old and Mature vines. Old and Mature vines is a more bolder wine than the shale with more body, dark berry fruit, some jam but with good acidity. Great overall balance. Where the Shale is more Pinot like, the OMV has more of a syrah-ness to it. Read More

Fred's done it again. This excellent zin is full of ripe dark fruit. I get some rhubarb and dark cherry, great acidity, a little smoke and overall fantastic balance. This is very fresh and young so I'm going to do my best to hold on to the rest of these bottles for a while, though that may be easier said than done. Read More
