for this region?

San Luis Obispo is part of the larger wine Central Coast region of California, located at the halfway point between Los Angeles and San Francisco. Spanish missionaries began wine-making here over two centuries ago for ceremonial wines made from the Mission (a.k.a. Pais) grape.

The area has two microclimates. Cooler conditions in the north are ideal for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay production, while the warmer south cultivates Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel.
There are four subregions within San Luis Obispo:
Arroyo Grande Valley
Edna Valley
Paso Robles
York Mountain

  • Adelaida Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon 2009

    Snoothrank:

Very nice cab from Paso. A bit tight on opening. Black and dark blue fruits started to emerge with some medium grain tannins and a medium finish. Just a tad on the hot side at first as well but mellowing a bit with some air time. Read More

  • Qupe Syrah Sawyer Lindquist Vineyard 2009

    Snoothrank:

Very interesting nosesomewhat earthy, somewhat vegetative, maybe something like cut grass. Fairly delicate on the tip of the tongue. Some cherry/berry flavors. Nice firm acid. Very tame tannins. My feeling is that this is not a long-ager. A good wine now, but no need to allocate storage space for this one. Read More

  • Adelaida Version Red Paso Robles Anna's Vineyard 2011

    Snoothrank:

Juicy and tasty red rhone blend from Adelaida in Paso. Lots of dark red and blue fruit but not overly jammy. Ripe blackberry on the nose and palate with some nice crushed plum, ripe black cherry and a touch of raisin. There's a touch of tart acid on the medium to long finish. Read More

  • Adelaida Zinfandel Michael's Estate Vineyard 2010

    Snoothrank:

A most excellent big and bold Paso zin. Loads of dark fruit (ripe dark cherry, ripe plum), nice acidity and fine grained tannins. There's a bit of weight on the tongue that blends well with the big fruit. Read More
