for this region?

San Luis Obispo is part of the larger wine Central Coast region of California, located at the halfway point between Los Angeles and San Francisco. Spanish missionaries began wine-making here over two centuries ago for ceremonial wines made from the Mission (a.k.a. Pais) grape.

The area has two microclimates. Cooler conditions in the north are ideal for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay production, while the warmer south cultivates Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel.
There are four subregions within San Luis Obispo:
Arroyo Grande Valley
Edna Valley
Paso Robles
York Mountain

    Snoothrank:

Enjoying a little zin before heading out of town for a few days. Jammy Carhartt, great solid nose. Currents and blackberries with a slight tint of toasted vanilla. Medium tannins and a medium to long finish. I'm pretty sure this wouldnt age well but its pretty darn good right now. I appreciate the acidity level and how it works with the jamm... Read More

  • Tower 15 Petite Sirah Paso Robles 2010

    Snoothrank:

Dark and earthy on the nose with a base of brownie and some dried herb accents to the core of black fruit thats topped with notes of African violet and pencil shavings. Dark and a little tight and tough on entry, this has plenty of richness in a tannic, black fruited style. Theres enough acid to keep things lively but the flavors are not particu... Read More

  • Clayhouse Cabernet Sauvignon 2010

    Snoothrank:

Rather big, rich and ripe on the nose which is full of spicy plum and black cherry aromas with hints of damp tobacco, black pepper, clay earth and ink. Broad and smooth in the mouth, there are some fine, edgy tannins here supporting a mid-palate that shows some extracted vegetal, marmite like flavors under a core of rich, dark coffee tinged frui... • Ancient Peaks Cabernet Sauvignon 2010

    Snoothrank:

Very perfumed with plenty of toasty oak on the nose laid over spicy black fruit that shows a touch of a baked character like blackberry pie filling. Smooth and rather well focused in the mouth. Attractive and fresh blueberry and blackberry fruit flavors glide across the palate backed up by subtle green herb tones and spicy, cedary oak. The tanni... Read More
