for this region?

San Luis Obispo is part of the larger wine Central Coast region of California, located at the halfway point between Los Angeles and San Francisco. Spanish missionaries began wine-making here over two centuries ago for ceremonial wines made from the Mission (a.k.a. Pais) grape.

The area has two microclimates. Cooler conditions in the north are ideal for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay production, while the warmer south cultivates Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel.
There are four subregions within San Luis Obispo:
Arroyo Grande Valley
Edna Valley
Paso Robles
York Mountain

  • Adelaida Keeper 2010

    Snoothrank:

Excellent Rhone blend from Paso based Adelaida. Bright and fruit forward with fresh red cherry, black cherry, plum and a touch of rhubarb. The fruit is well balanced against medium acidity and the alcohol stays somewhat in the background. Read More

Really enjoyed this Paso white Rhone blend! Nice touch of lemon pith combined with dried fig, pear and a touch of apricot. This has medium acidity, medium body and a crisp mid-length finish. Excellent QPR. Read More

  • Lohr Me Los Osos 2007

    Snoothrank:

I tried the 2007 1/2 bottle and was impressed. Learned this "Merlot" is actually a "Bordeaux Blend." I'd like to know the percentages of Merlot, Cab. Sauv., Malbec, Petit Verdot and Cab. Franc which made this vintage. Read More

  • Summerland Wolff Vineyard Pinot Noir Edna Valley 2012

    Snoothrank:

Very "light" appearing red color--a lot of light passes through. Not a terribly big nose--some fruit hints, some spicy hints. Very light on the tongue--this is one step away from a rose in body. Quite fruity on the tip of the tongue--mostly cherries. Tartness makes this a good candidate for food pairing. US$19.99 at Costco in Chino Hills. Read More

Well balanced syrah from Paso Robles. Not overly jammy or extracted but well rounded with loads of dark cherry and plum. Fairly smooth tannins, fresh, inky purple and a nice medium finish. Read More

For an inexpensive cabernet, I was pleasantly surprised. Nice fruit with acceptable body and pleasant finish. Give it few minutes to open up. I will buy it again to drink with my baked ziti. Glad I took a chance. Read More
