for this region?

San Luis Obispo is part of the larger wine Central Coast region of California, located at the halfway point between Los Angeles and San Francisco. Spanish missionaries began wine-making here over two centuries ago for ceremonial wines made from the Mission (a.k.a. Pais) grape.

The area has two microclimates. Cooler conditions in the north are ideal for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay production, while the warmer south cultivates Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel.
There are four subregions within San Luis Obispo:
Arroyo Grande Valley
Edna Valley
Paso Robles
York Mountain

  • Peachy Canyon Winery Cirque du Vin Red Blend Paso Robles 2012

    Snoothrank:

Sultry, smoky and spicy aromas of savory earth and cracked black pepper with notes of black cherry and blackberry. Zesty mixed berry palate is quite fruity with more red fruit notes of cranberry, cherry and strawberry with an herbal hint of licorice and dark spice, a creamy texture on the finish, and a lively acidity throughout. Easy and approac... Read More

  • Le Vigne Cuore Della Vigna Estate Paso Robles 2013

    Snoothrank:

Savory soy sauce and beef stew aromas with intriguing minerality and ripe cherry, mixed berry and baking spice. In the mouth it's considerably cooler, bringing milk chocolate and zesty spice, a zip of acidity towards the finish and a palate of fruit flavors, mostly raspberry, cherry, blueberry and cranberry. Fruit forward and approachable, with ... Read More

  • Hearst Ranch Winery Randolph Red Blend Paso Robles 2014

    Snoothrank:

On the nose there's a hint of earth and light smoke with loads of fresh fruit notes of cherry, strawberry and cranberry with a small earthy whiff of savory and meaty spice. More expressive fruit on the palate, cherry, raspberry and creamy milk chocolate on the mid palate with an herbal almost minty note towards the finish that is glazed with pep... Read More

  • Justin Vineyards & Winery Savant Paso Robles 2014

    Snoothrank:

Savory and spicy on the nose and quite concentrated with dark black currant and blackberry preserve notes and powerful sweet spice. Richly flavorful and full on the palate, still this is deceptive and seems lighter than it is. Flavors are well developed and complex with dark chocolate and raspberry flavors set against darker black cherry and bla... Read More

  • Margate Paso Robles Red Blend 2014

    Snoothrank:

Another Tasting Room selection. Not much here. A bit too fruit forward and one dimensional for my tastes. Having this once is enough. Description from Tasting Room site is pretty accurate - just not much here...'This flavorful red shows freshness and an attractive core of ripe cherry and plum characters mingling with darker, stewed-fruit nuances... Soft strawberry and raspberry aromas with powdered sugar and cinnamon spice, delicate but assertive and fresh. Finishes with dark... Read More

  • Angeline Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 2014

    Snoothrank:

Dusty raspberry and cherry aromas with an earthy note of very light smoke and cinnamon. This delivers strong fruit flavors of strawberry, mixed berry and cherry cola with earthy minerality towards the finish that supports the spice and good structure holding up the wine. An enjoyable and approachable bottle of wine. Read More
