for this region?

San Luis Obispo is part of the larger wine Central Coast region of California, located at the halfway point between Los Angeles and San Francisco. Spanish missionaries began wine-making here over two centuries ago for ceremonial wines made from the Mission (a.k.a. Pais) grape.
The area has two microclimates. Cooler conditions in the north are ideal for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay production, while the warmer south cultivates Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel.
There are four subregions within San Luis Obispo:
Arroyo Grande Valley
Edna Valley
Paso Robles
York Mountain

  • Vinum Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon the Insider 2013

Dusty blackberry aromas pour out of the glass with dried raisin and fig fruit and a soft clove spice. Very bright in the mouth, dry but with incredibly bright fruit - a good mix of blueberry, raspberry, black currant and black cherry. When the fruit moves on theres a soft cedar and licorice note left behind that is zesty and comes with a dark ea... Read More

  • Adelaida Cabernet Reserve Viking Estate 2012

Very nice but not great Paso bordeaux blend from Adelaida. Subtle nose with a hint of mint and shoe polish. Not overly jammy, layered or fruity on the palate but a decent amount of black berries, tar and leather. The tannins are fairly fine grained with a bit of grip, medium acidity and a medium long finish. Read More

  • Tablas Creek Vineyard Esprit de Beaucastel Rouge 2008

Really enjoying this excellent Tablas Esprit de Beaucastel! Really dark, chewy berry fruit on the nose with some savoriness. Loads of ripe, crushed black cherry, notes of black licorice that just go on and on, a touch of mint, and a bit of freshly tanned leather. There are well resolved, fine tannins, tongue coating viscosity, medium plus acidit... Read More
