for this region?

San Luis Obispo is part of the larger wine Central Coast region of California, located at the halfway point between Los Angeles and San Francisco. Spanish missionaries began wine-making here over two centuries ago for ceremonial wines made from the Mission (a.k.a. Pais) grape.

The area has two microclimates. Cooler conditions in the north are ideal for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay production, while the warmer south cultivates Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel.
There are four subregions within San Luis Obispo:
Arroyo Grande Valley
Edna Valley
Paso Robles
York Mountain

  • Victor Hugo Red Bordeaux Blend Paso Robles Opulence 2005

    Snoothrank:

A very nice Bordeaux blend of Cab Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec, and Cab Sauvignon with aromas of plum, some raspberry and a hint of licorice with the same coming though on the palate. A nice smooth, drinkable wine. I've been to the winery and they are very nice with many good wines. Read More

  • Cass Rockin' One 2005

    Snoothrank:

The medium-ruby colored Tranquility is a blend of Mouvedre, Syrah, & Grenache grapes, so it was no surprise that there was a spicy, white pepper smell on the nose. Behind the pepper smell, there was grape and raspberry. As far as taste, the wine felt a little light in the mouth, particularly because the spiciness was even stronger on the palat... Read More

  • Four Vines Zinfandel Paso Robles 2008

    Snoothrank:

I really like this wine for the price. Its not huge but nice and fruity and toasty. However, I think the one "wineart" reviews is a different one. This is "old vines" (about 11.99) not "maverick" (which costs more). Read More
