San Luis Obispo County Wine
San Luis Obispo is part of the larger wine Central Coast region of California, located at the halfway point between Los Angeles and San Francisco. Spanish missionaries began wine-making here over two centuries ago for ceremonial wines made from the Mission (a.k.a. Pais) grape.
The area has two microclimates. Cooler conditions in the north are ideal for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay production, while the warmer south cultivates Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel.
There are four subregions within San Luis Obispo:
Arroyo Grande Valley
Edna Valley
Paso Robles
York Mountain
