San Joaquin Valley, within the county of the same name, is part of the larger Central Valley district in California. It extends from Stockton in the north to Bakersfield in the south, with the Sierra Nevada mountains in the east and the Pacific Coast Ranges in the west. The climate is typically hot and dry. Though there is limited rainfall, irrigation is sourced from a system of canals and two reservoirs.

Wine-making began in the region as California gained statehood, although it wasn’t recognized for quality production until the 1960s and 70s. Once advancements in warm-weather oenology caught on, wine-makers found ways to produce higher quality wines.

The region is known for concentrated red wines from Zinfandel, and whites from Chardonnay and Colombard.

  • Peirano Estate Vineyards The Other Red Blend Lodi 2014

    Snoothrank:

Savory and fruity aromas of dark baking spice, raspberry and strawberry with notes of blossom, fresh dewy earth and a touch of cherry. Well integrated palate with harmonious red fruit notes of ripe cherry, raspberry and red currant, a bit tart but easy drinking and approachable with soft tannins and a violet, blueberry finish with good balance. A bit too dry. Uncharacteristic dryness of a petite sirah. Good balance on tannins. Fruit forward. Mostly red fruit flavors like red raspberry. Read More

Good, but a softer version of most, raspberry, some dark berry fruits, medium chewy tannins but they over balanced the acidity a little. Some chocolate notes and a little dark cherry on the finish. Drink now - Paul 85 pts Read More
