Lodi Wine

The Lodi wine region lies in the northern portion of California’s Central Valley, which includes San Joaquin County. The eastern portions are within the Sacramento Valley, while its western parts touch on the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta, with noticeably cooler conditions in that section.

Lodi is known for its old vine Zinfandels, with quality production from other varietals such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petite Sirah, Cabernet Franc, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. One of the more exciting trends in the region is experimentation with Spanish varietals such as Tempranillo, Graciano, and Albarino and the Portuguese Verdelho. Flame Tokay had at one time been the signature grape of the region, now fallen out of favor, but still used for brandy production.

Though Lodi itself is a subregion of Central Valley, it is further divided into the following subregions:

  • Alta Mesa
  • Borden Ranch (home of Woodbridge and Sutter Home)
  • Clements Hills
  • Cosummes River

Lodi on Snooth

  • Noble Vines Cabernet Sauvignon 337 2013

    Snoothrank:

Probably the best Cabernet Sauvignon I've ever had. I was at a yacht club and when I had this for the first time, I had to find out what it was ASAP! My friends have spent over $50 on fancy bottles of Cabernet for special occasions (forgot the names) and this one definitely takes the throne. I only paid 12$ for this bottle and they can definitel... Read More

  • Klinker Brick Zinfandel Old Vine 2012

    Snoothrank:

This Old Vine Zin is a deep garnet color and has a rich smoky, black cherry aromas with hints of dark chocolate and a distinct spike of cardamon spice. At the first sip you get a smooth, deep overripe cherry taste with a sweetness on the tip of your tongue, which teases the taste buds. After a while the sweetness settles down a little but the ... • Gnarly Head Old Vine Zinfandel Lodi 2013

    Snoothrank:

This is a fabulous very full-bodied rich red! The blackberry and cassis fruit tasting notes are succulent! We paired it with olives, sharp cheddar on multigrain bagette dipped in peppery/herbed olive oil with garlic stuffed olives. I think it would be excellent with any spicy cuisine, which makes the spicy backnote of this wine explode on your ... Read More
