San Joaquin County Wine

for this region?

The Central Valley wine region of California is located east of the San Francisco Bay area, running south through the Sacramento and San Joaquin valleys to Bakersfield. It is within these valleys, and the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta where they meet in between, where viticulture takes place.

The hot, dry conditions of the region are prone to high yields, which is how this region became the center of California’s bulk wine production. But within some of the Valley’s subregions, a growing number of high quality wines are also in production.

Central Vallley is divided into the following subregions:
Diablo County
Fresno County
Lodi
Madera
River Junction
Tracy Hills
Yolo County

  • Bedrock Wine Co. Zinfandel Kirschenmann Vineyard 2012

    Snoothrank:

My 2nd place wine and the groups 1st Theres some gentle cocoa and mocha on the nose but this is dominated by sweet raspberry and boysenberry fruit that is very fresh with lightly floral and smoky top notes. Medium light on the palate and with a touch of aggressive tannins early on the palate followed by pure, light and transparent red berry, ras... Read More

  • Ravenswood 'Lodi' Zinfandel 2011

    Snoothrank:

The wine is a deep ruby color in the glass with very nice clarity. The nose is classic Lodi Zin, rich ripe black fruit, blackberries, black cherry, blueberries and plum over a smoky layer of leather and cedar intertwined with some green grass and herbs. The taste is just a pleasure from the first sip, with rich jammy fruit bursting forward tha... Read More

  • Bokisch Verdejo Lodi California 2013

    Snoothrank:

I "discovered" Bokisch several years ago. . .And, have commented on their wines in several previous reviews . . .The Verdejo is a "new" addition to Markus and Liz's library of Spanish varietals. . And, well-worth a "blind" purchase. . .Very much in keeping with their other fine wines! Especially with tapas and other Spanish cuisine. . .!!! I s... Read More

  • Bokisch Verdejo Lodi California 2013

    Snoothrank:

Nutty and very almondy on the nose with underlying dusty, sandy, earthy mineral notes. Crisp, edgy and bright in the mouth, this has a lovely slightly creamy mid palate rich with gentle, elegant pithy fruit and with a light nutty note. The brisk fine acid adds a fine hint of tension to the palate and the long finish which shows a hint of little w... Read More

  • D'Art Wines Zinfandel Lodi 2010

    Snoothrank:

Buttery, American oak lays over the sweet nose with lots of toasty spice over a sweet base of coulis of black berry fruit. Elegant on entry, and rather well focused, this is a bit evolved but nicely done with black fruit and peppery spice on the dry and firm palate. Well balanced with spicy woodland black berried fruit and good length, its an i... Read More

  • Brazin Zinfandel Lodi 2011

    Snoothrank:

Spicy, and a Little peppery on the nose with an obvious touch of oak adding complexity under nicely earthy and subtly floral toned berry fruit. Rich, round polished and plump in the mouth, this shows off nice acids and soft tannins in a rather easy going, fruity style. The fruit is fresh and red toned, mostly in the strawberry end of the spectr... Read More
