San Joaquin County Wine

for this region?

The Central Valley wine region of California is located east of the San Francisco Bay area, running south through the Sacramento and San Joaquin valleys to Bakersfield. It is within these valleys, and the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta where they meet in between, where viticulture takes place.

The hot, dry conditions of the region are prone to high yields, which is how this region became the center of California’s bulk wine production. But within some of the Valley’s subregions, a growing number of high quality wines are also in production.

Central Vallley is divided into the following subregions:
Diablo County
Fresno County
Lodi
Madera
River Junction
Tracy Hills
Yolo County

  • Francis Ford Coppola Alicante Bouschet California Diamond Collection Magenta Label 2007

    Snoothrank:

Fruity smell and very easy to drink. The Coppola Alicante is a lighter alternative to their Claret or Cab. Nice to drink alone or with cheese while enjoying a good film. Would probably go with something else if I was serving red meat. Read More

  • Cline Zinfandel Still Usa California Napa Zinfandel 2007

    Snoothrank:

Dark purple in the glass that leave distinct legs down the glass. A red licorice aroma that blends the fruit with something a little more earthy. However, you could definately pick up the alcohol (14%). Soft, rounded oak. Initial impression was a bland Zin but as I was drinking was appreciating the softness. Read More

  • Michael-David Vineyards Incognito 2005

    Snoothrank:

This Rhône-style blend is bravely composed of 9 different varietals including: Mourvedre, Syrah, Petite Sirah, Cinsault, Carignane, Tannat, Malbec, Cabernet Franc, and Grenache. The outcome is successfully, by design, an enigmatic Rhône Valley tribute including, literally, every typical Rhône varietal. Surprisingly, I found characteristics and... Read More

  • Peltier Station Viognier 2006

    Snoothrank:

This ia not a wine. It is some kind of liquid flower. Most Viognier has that floral nose but taste like some strange Chardonnay. Not this. It tastes like drinking orchids. I'm not a white wine drinker but this is one of my favorites. It has so much WOW factor that you white wine drinkers may have to take some time to appreciate it. (Sorry for be... Read More

  • Cosentino Winery Zinfandel California Cigarzin 2006

    Snoothrank:

My first exposure to Cigarzin was just recently. A group of my co-workers got together and had a variety of pizzas plus some Indian food to eat. One of the guys brought a bottle of the 2005 Cigarzin. Even though our food pairing was a bit of a hodge-podge, the wine was great. I can't wait to try it again with a meal that will do it justice.
