North Coast Wine

The North Coast AVA is a region that spans eight counties and dozens of prestigious subregions within California. The Pacific Ocean creates cooling air and fog conditions that benefit quality grapegrowing. Most of the wines produced in the area use their own subregion on the label, so wines labeled North Coast are often ones made with a blend of grapes from different parts of the region.
The North Coast is further subdivided into the following regions:
Humboldt County
Lake County
Marin County
Mendocino County
Napa County
Sonoma County
Solano County
Trinity County

  • Silver Oak Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2006

This is a good bottle of wine. It is not very good or excellent. It is not worth the $70. I would say this is a $20 bottle of wine. Flavors are hidden and just a little bit of tannin. For $70 you would be able to get much better wine. It is a bit one dimensional. I am 87 point on this effort. Happy drinking! Read More

  • Pahlmeyer Napa Valley Merlot Premier 5 2004

This is indeed one of the best Merlots I have had in this price range. However, Pahlmeyer Merlot 2004 is very fruit-forward, so if you are an old-world wine drinker, you might not find it very special. On the nose, the first thing that hits me is very ripe black fruits, plum, a hint of mild spices, a little hint of vanilla. Smooth tannins, mediu... Read More

  • Coho Red Bordeaux Blend Napa Valley Headwaters 2008

WS just rated this at 88, RP had earlier rated 89. I am not an expert but I think, in this case, they both missed the mark. Normally WS and RP are close in their ratings, as they are in this case so their marks are probably worth considering as data points. Here's another data point: I tasted and was convinced it could be as high as 94pts bu... Read More

Buttery sweet nose. Bright and full with a touch of floral. Buttery tangy finish. Great Chardonnay for someone who isn't a huge Chardonnay fan because of the lack of "oakiness". Read More
