North Coast Wine

The North Coast AVA is a region that spans eight counties and dozens of prestigious subregions within California. The Pacific Ocean creates cooling air and fog conditions that benefit quality grapegrowing. Most of the wines produced in the area use their own subregion on the label, so wines labeled North Coast are often ones made with a blend of grapes from different parts of the region.

The North Coast is further subdivided into the following regions:
Humboldt County
Lake County
Marin County
Mendocino County
Napa County
Sonoma County
Solano County
Trinity County

  • Parallus Russian River Valley Chardonnay 2012

    Snoothrank:

A Tasting Room Quarterly Selection, also available on Lot 18. A big, buttery, oaky Chardonnay, but only just so. Opens with a blast, but then becomes more subtle with caramel, toffee, chestnut/hazelnut, ripe peach and apricot and very nice acidity that cuts away and balances the toffee/oak. Big and silky in the mouth, with long finish of vanill... Read More

  • Peju Province Winery Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2005

    Snoothrank:

Tons of currant fruit on the tip of the tongue. Some anise spice. Very light on the tannins and the acid. A likeable and easy wine to drink, but not a great expression of a Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Read More

  • ATF labeling laws.  They care where the grapes come from, not where it was vinified.  And NO nipples allowed. Some of that long drive is because the roads are secondary in places.  Lots of it is just because California is really long and skinny.  You grow most of your grapes on the coast so that's the north-south direction, the long one.  BTW, R... • Long Meadow Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2006

  • Hendry Vineyards Zinfandel Block 7 & 22 2011

    Snoothrank:

Lots of blackberry fruit on introduction to the palate. Then there is alcoholic heat. Towards the back of the palate there is an annoying sourness. I like acidic tartness, but this sourness is just not pleasant. In a few more glasses Ill probably have enough alcohol in me to totally blunt my senses, and this wine will then become OK. Read More
