North Coast Wine

The North Coast AVA is a region that spans eight counties and dozens of prestigious subregions within California. The Pacific Ocean creates cooling air and fog conditions that benefit quality grapegrowing. Most of the wines produced in the area use their own subregion on the label, so wines labeled North Coast are often ones made with a blend of grapes from different parts of the region.

The North Coast is further subdivided into the following regions:
Humboldt County
Lake County
Marin County
Mendocino County
Napa County
Sonoma County
Solano County
Trinity County

  • Andrew Geoffrey Cabernet Sauvignon Diamond Mountain District 2004

    Snoothrank:

This Cabernet is in its prime. The tannins have slightly withdrawn. Everything you want a great cab to be is definitely in this vintage. The finish is medium. Read More

  • White Oak Chardonnay 2014

    Snoothrank:

Another one from Lunch at Bravo's. Thin gold in the glass. Opens with Gravel, Pear, Kiwi, Smoke, and Ash. The Gravel, Earth, and Ash carry over to the Palate with underripe Peach, Honey, and Butter. Initially tight, medium acidity, then opens up very quickly in the Glass and becomes a medium oaked Chardonnay - quite pleasant. Read More

  • Myriad Cabernet Sauvignon Three Twins Vineyard 2012

    Snoothrank:

Fresh fruity nose. Gentle entry that suggests berry fruitcurrant, blueberrybut only suggests. Some suggestion of slate. Interesting retro-nasal sensation of earthiness. Surprisingly (to me) light on tannins. A bit more tartness on the rear palate than I would normally like. Very pleasant finish where the earthiness continues. A very enjoy... Read More

  • J Vineyards Chardonnay Russian River Valley 2015

    Snoothrank:

Cool and crisp aromatic green apple, peach and fresh tea leaf aromas. Creamy and buttery with a round and full palate, this starts out with good ripe fruit notes of pear and peach and then shows a broad side of vanilla bean and fresh butter, finishing with an oaky frame around a core of green apple and even a faint hint of lemon. • Guarachi Family Wines Pinot Noir Sun Chase Vineyard Sonoma Coast 2014

    Snoothrank:

Expressive, expansive nose with light spice and fresh cherry and strawberry fruit coming well ahead of the cherry cola notes that join the fray. Excellent complexity in the mouth with darkest black cherry and sweet baking spice notes, creamy milk chocolate that lingers and evolves and a mixed berry freshness throughout. This is a diverse and int... Read More

  • EM - Sandra's oyster assessment:  The west coast oysters are more delicate, have a cucumber taste and the further north you get them from the better they are.  The east coast oysters are brinier, generally less delicate (larger) and again the further north you go (PEI) the better they are.DM - I'm certainly not going to address each and every ph... • Limerick Lane Headpruned Block Syrah 2012

    Snoothrank:

Beautiful dark purple color. Rich pruney nose. Blackberry on the tip of the tongue. Some, woodiness to which I would attribute tannin. Nice firm tannins and acid give lots of backbone. I love the fact that this is not an in-your-face-with-fruit wine. The blackberry note hinted dissipates into a truly terrific wine experience. Read More

  • Robert Mondavi Fume Blanc 2015

    Snoothrank:

Very pale yellow in the glass. Very pale. More fruity, but slightly flowery nose. On the tongue delicate fruit flavors suggesting peach, kiwi, green apple. Very crisp and refreshing. A super easy wine to drink on a hot dayand even though it is, technically, winter here in the Northern Hemisphere, it is pretty darned hot, here, today. Read More
