North Coast Wine

The North Coast AVA is a region that spans eight counties and dozens of prestigious subregions within California. The Pacific Ocean creates cooling air and fog conditions that benefit quality grapegrowing. Most of the wines produced in the area use their own subregion on the label, so wines labeled North Coast are often ones made with a blend of grapes from different parts of the region.

The North Coast is further subdivided into the following regions:
Humboldt County
Lake County
Marin County
Mendocino County
Napa County
Sonoma County
Solano County
Trinity County

  • Orin Swift Cellars "The Prisoner" 2007

    Snoothrank:

This is what they said "92 points and one the Wine Spectator's Top 100 Wines of 2009: "Offers both style and structure, with lively aromas of black raspberry, cracked pepper and mocha, with plush and layered flavors of wild berry, fresh sage and licorice. Ripe tannins sneak in on the finish. Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Petite Sirah, Ch... Read More

  • Starmont Merlot 2012

    Snoothrank:

From completely unknown to Holy Cow! in one glass. This is absolutely beautiful. Plenty of dark berry fruits with additional plum and dark cherries on the finish. Earthy tones and tomato leaf meld with mellowed tannins and balanced acidity make this really easy to drink. Wonderful wine, great wine making here. Drink or hold - Paul 91 points Read More

  • Girard Old Vine Zinfandel Napa Valley 2012

    Snoothrank:

Benefited greatly from laying down for the short term. Lush dark berry fruits, briary brush notes, pepper, chocolate lead to a chewy tannin, juicy acidic spiked with a nice pop of alcohol. Drink or hold - decant. Paul 91 points Read More

  • Obsidian Ridge "Estate Grown" Red Hills Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

    Snoothrank:

One of the few vineyards in the world with a vein of Obsidian running through - thus the name and minerality that shows rather uncharacteristically large in the wine. Add to the black berry and damson plum fruit, chocolate, herbal notes, spice (pepper) a little bit of chewy tannins and good acidity, a medium length aftertaste - this could have l... Read More

  • Jim Olsen & Tom Shula "Pickberry Vineyard" Merlot Sonoma Mountains 2014

    Snoothrank:

Wine of the night for this Naked Wines Tasting. A reddish purple in the glass with a small clear separation ring. Legs for days, blackberries, dark cherries a well portioned mint profile give this a refreshing finish that accents the acidity while very mellow tannins give a structure to the body. Medium to long aftertaste is satisfying and begs ... Read More

  • Ceritas Pinot Noir Porter-Bass Vineyard 2012

    Snoothrank:

Translucent red plum color in the glass. Unusually spicy nose. Very light bodied on the tonguenot rose light, but darned close. Delicate suggestion of strawberry or cherry. Stiff acid makes me want to guzzle this, but I wont. Read More
