North Coast Wine

The North Coast AVA is a region that spans eight counties and dozens of prestigious subregions within California. The Pacific Ocean creates cooling air and fog conditions that benefit quality grapegrowing. Most of the wines produced in the area use their own subregion on the label, so wines labeled North Coast are often ones made with a blend of grapes from different parts of the region.

The North Coast is further subdivided into the following regions:
Humboldt County
Lake County
Marin County
Mendocino County
Napa County
Sonoma County
Solano County
Trinity County

  • Ancillary Cellars Pinot Noir Sun Chase Vineyard 2014

    Snoothrank:

A lot of up-front bright red fruitstrawberry, plumwith something of a floral note. Beyond the fruity introduction, this is, to me, a very lean wine. Im not disappointed with the lack of tanninOK, I am disappointed, but I also know that this is Pinot Noirbut I also wish there was more acid. This is an easy-to-drink wine, but, sometimes (days e... • Schug Chardonnay Sonoma Coast 2015

    Snoothrank:

Creamy, aromatic and rich apricot, tangerine and green apple aromas. Juicy and firm yet plump in the mouth, this brings a bit of a tropical note along with citrus notes of lemon, grapefruit and melon, turning tart and acidic towards the finish with a brusque oak spice. Read More

  • Textbook Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2012

    Snoothrank:

This, like the '12 Freemark Abbey, has fleshed out nicely also. Plenty of dark berry fruit, spice, a light mint note, mocha notes with firm tannins and juicy acidity this is really, really good. 89 points - drink or hold - Paul Read More

  • Carlisle Russian River Valley Zinfandel Old Vines 2014

    Snoothrank:

Red fruit on entryred plumwith a violet-like flowery component. A lot of bramble reminiscent of 1970s-80s zins. Some very serious tannins, which, my guess will take some time to calm down. That, along with good acid content, suggests that I should have listened to common wisdom about Carlisles and let it lay on its side for several more years. Read More
