North Coast Wine

The North Coast AVA is a region that spans eight counties and dozens of prestigious subregions within California. The Pacific Ocean creates cooling air and fog conditions that benefit quality grapegrowing. Most of the wines produced in the area use their own subregion on the label, so wines labeled North Coast are often ones made with a blend of grapes from different parts of the region.

The North Coast is further subdivided into the following regions:
Humboldt County
Lake County
Marin County
Mendocino County
Napa County
Sonoma County
Solano County
Trinity County

  • Apsara Cabernet Sauvignon Kenefick Ranch 2012

    Snoothrank:

Pleasant, fruity nose. Currant and prune on the tongue. Then some coffee and dustiness. Still some quite stiff tannins. Some raspiness on the rear palate. While this is an enjoyable wine, today, it can do with a few more years of sideways. Read More

  • Ravenswood Besieged 2014

    Snoothrank:

A Ravenswood project and a veritable whos who of deep red grape varieties. Surprisingly restrained yet still a touch heated on the nose with spicy blackberry and black currant aromas and pleasant sweet spice. Quite fruity on entry and intriguingly diverse, beginning with blueberry, black cherry and blackberry fruit before releasing a swath of ta... Read More

  • Clos Pegase Chardonnay Mitsuko's Vineyard Carneros 2015

    Snoothrank:

Plush and aromatic with green apple and toasted caramel notes, lightly smoked with deep toasted vanilla and a touch of lemon. Creamy, oaky and buttery on the palate, with fruit notes of peppery lemon, green apple and plantain, this finishes with a crisp flash of oak and plenty more melted butter. 90 pts Read More

  • Ridge Zinfandel East Bench 2013

    Snoothrank:

Big hit of red fruitcherryon entry. Much more than I get from other Ridge bottlings. Still stiff tannin provides nice backbone. Good acid. A good wine, but I think I like my Zins to be a tad less civilized. This one seems to be reined in. Read More

  • Rodney Strong Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc Charlotte's Home Vineyard Sonoma County 2016

Grassy lemon and grapefruit aromas. Palate has good herbal lemon notes, fresh acidity and a bit of lime zest coming to the finish where there's some floral white blossom notes, green apple and a touch of vanilla. Read More
