North Coast Wine

The North Coast AVA is a region that spans eight counties and dozens of prestigious subregions within California. The Pacific Ocean creates cooling air and fog conditions that benefit quality grapegrowing. Most of the wines produced in the area use their own subregion on the label, so wines labeled North Coast are often ones made with a blend of grapes from different parts of the region.

The North Coast is further subdivided into the following regions:
Humboldt County
Lake County
Marin County
Mendocino County
Napa County
Sonoma County
Solano County
Trinity County

  • Rombauer Merlot Napa Valley 2010

    Snoothrank:

Explosive cherry and blackberry aromas. Ripe black cherry and cinnamon spice on the palate. You'll find blackberry jam, cinnamon, cranberry juice, basil and tomato leaf on the slow-evolving palate. An excellent expression of the Merlot grape. Read More

  • Patz and Hall Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast 2012

    Snoothrank:

Not as light-colored as a lot of Pinots seem to be. Earthy nose, although there seems to be something sweet there, alsocaramel, molasses. On introduction to the tongue, there is a pleasant (i.e., light) hit of red fruitcherry or strawberry. Towards the back of the palate Im getting that earthiness, again. Not really unpleasant. The light to... Read More

  • Von Strasser Diamond Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon 2006

    Snoothrank:

Oaky vanilla on the nose. Light on the fruit on introduction to the tongue and palatejust the slightest cassis note. Some spice pops up after mid-palatecinnamon, clove, maybe, coffee. Fairly light-bodied for a Cab. Almost no tannin. Not necessarily unlikeable, but this one could definitely use more oomph. Read More

  • Cornerstone Corallina Napa Valley 2014

    Snoothrank:

This shows light and fruity on the nose with touches of watermelon juice, cherry syrup and just a hint of herb floating along behind the fruit. Quite light in the mouth, with most of the fruit coming on the backpalate featuring strawberry and watermelon with the front of the tongue seeing less of the fruit and more acidity and tartness leading t...
