North Coast Wine

The North Coast AVA is a region that spans eight counties and dozens of prestigious subregions within California. The Pacific Ocean creates cooling air and fog conditions that benefit quality grapegrowing. Most of the wines produced in the area use their own subregion on the label, so wines labeled North Coast are often ones made with a blend of grapes from different parts of the region.

The North Coast is further subdivided into the following regions:
Humboldt County
Lake County
Marin County
Mendocino County
Napa County
Sonoma County
Solano County
Trinity County

  • Grgich Hills Cellars Chardonnay Napa Valley 2012

    Snoothrank:

Very clear yellow color. Some oak on the nose. Nice acid on the tip of the tongue calms my fears about being overoaked. Lots of upfront fruitstone fruit, citrus (lemonish). As indicated, oak is discernible, but it is certainly not over the top. Overall, this is a crisp, refreshing wine. I would compare it to a white Burgundy, but it is on... Read More

  • Skrimshaw Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir 2014

    Snoothrank:

A recent Tasting Room selection. Very pale and translucent brown red in the glass - almost a Tawny Port color. Little to no legs. Opens with cherry and ripe raspberries; then cola and mint; a faint smell of bright ocean. Most of these carry over to the palate with more notes of cola and toffee. For how thin it looked, surprisingly full and smoot... Read More

  • Beaulieu Vineyard Tapestry Reserve Red 2009

    Snoothrank:

My last bottle and I must say that it took it long to fully open for the fruits to develop an identity. The fruit was mostly red berries with a touch of plum, chocolate accents combine with herbal and earthy notes. Well melded tannins and acidity leave a short aftertaste. 89 points - Paul Read More

  • Trentadue Winery la Storia Petite Sirah 2011

    Snoothrank:

The wine of the night on round the world tour for some new people to the PFWC wine cellar. This actually could have sat for another yr or two, but it is big and bold right now and drinking well. Blackberries, dirt and pepper with large tannins and properly scaled acidity makes the mouth go POP! The aftertaste is large and extended. This is why I... Read More

  • Simi Sonoma County Chardonnay 2013

    Snoothrank:

Maybe an 89 here - but then it's just an opinion. Fresh with green apples, vanilin and a touch of nuttiness and citrus around the edges that lead to a slightly vicious, juicy finish. Well done - Paul. 88 points Read More

  • Chateau St. Jean Cinq Cépages Sonoma County 2010

    Snoothrank:

More blue than red purple color. Green woody nose with a fair amount of earthiness. Gentle hit of cassis on introduction, but lots more going on. Again, Im getting a green viney thing, but definitely not in your face. Dark chocolate with only the suggestion of bitterness. A full-bodied wine, but not a brute. On the other hand it is not a... This is what they said "92 points and one the Wine Spectator's Top 100 Wines of 2009: "Offers both style and structure, with lively aromas of black raspberry, cracked pepper and mocha, with plush and layered flavors of wild berry, fresh sage and licorice. • Starmont Merlot 2012

    Snoothrank:

From completely unknown to Holy Cow! in one glass. This is absolutely beautiful. Plenty of dark berry fruits with additional plum and dark cherries on the finish. Earthy tones and tomato leaf meld with mellowed tannins and balanced acidity make this really easy to drink. Wonderful wine, great wine making here. Drink or hold - Paul 91 points Read More
