North Coast Wine

The North Coast AVA is a region that spans eight counties and dozens of prestigious subregions within California. The Pacific Ocean creates cooling air and fog conditions that benefit quality grapegrowing. Most of the wines produced in the area use their own subregion on the label, so wines labeled North Coast are often ones made with a blend of grapes from different parts of the region.

The North Coast is further subdivided into the following regions:
Humboldt County
Lake County
Marin County
Mendocino County
Napa County
Sonoma County
Solano County
Trinity County

  • Abrente Napa Valley Albarino 2014

    Snoothrank:

Really excellent Carneros albarino from Bedrock/Abrente. There's some salinity that goes along with the lemon zest, mouth watering acidity, key lime pie, a hint of hazelnut and a bit of apricot. The finish is medium long. I'm guessing folks are drinking this too cold, it significantly improved as it warmed up in the glass. Read More

  • Beau Vigne Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2002

    Snoothrank:

2002.? Any questions? Decanted and bold, still quite young. Cellar holder; no need to spill yet. A beautiful young boutique Cab and reflection and memory of the 2002 Vintage I used to own. Thank you Table #22 for the taste @ the venue I work. Read More

  • Calluna Vineyards Cuvee "CVC" Chalk Hill 2010

    Snoothrank:

This is a Merlot-heavy Bordeaux blend and my first impression is that it is taking me back to the bad old days of Merloti.e., pre-Sideways. A pleasant enough berry nose. On the tongue, seriously green and viney. Sour around the edges of the tongue. Bitterness mid-palate. Once I swallow it, though, it has the great aftertaste of a perfectly ... Read More

  • Keenan Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 35th Anniversary 2011

    Snoothrank:

Quite dark in color. Woody, viny nose with a suggestion of olive. Initial mouth sensation is that this is pretty thin. Little or no fruit to speak of. Somewhat sour or weedy, but, then some oaky vanilla. Some leather and tobacco on the back of the palate. I normally expect Spring Mountain wines to be brutally tannic, but this one has surpri... • Schug Chardonnay Carneros 2013

    Snoothrank:

Red apple and lemon curd notes on the nose with cream and peach. Tart lemon notes on the palate, somewhat restrained in flavor but bursting with acidity, this shows a touch of peach and a white blossom note towards the finish. Read More

  • Rockpile Winery Cabernet Sauvignon Rockpile Ridge Vineyard 2010

    Snoothrank:

Quite dark color in the glass. Dark woody nose. Amazing on the tongue. Very smooth. Light hit of cassis flavor, but then some dark unsweetened chocolate. Tannin that will grab your attention, but, then, you like it. Interestingly enough, this wine is not as full-bodied as my description may imply. If there is such a thing, I might suggest...
