North Coast Wine

The North Coast AVA is a region that spans eight counties and dozens of prestigious subregions within California. The Pacific Ocean creates cooling air and fog conditions that benefit quality grapegrowing. Most of the wines produced in the area use their own subregion on the label, so wines labeled North Coast are often ones made with a blend of grapes from different parts of the region.

The North Coast is further subdivided into the following regions:
Humboldt County
Lake County
Marin County
Mendocino County
Napa County
Sonoma County
Solano County
Trinity County

  • Rodney Strong Rose of Pinot Noir Russian River Valley 2016

    Snoothrank:

Pleasant watermelon and cherry aromas are juicy and inviting. This has a fresh, tingling acidity and a zesty spice on the palate. Its playful and clean with excellent fruit notes of cranberry, cherry and strawberry leading up to a bit of an earthy finish. 90 points Read More

  • J Vineyards Brut Rose NV

    Snoothrank:

It brings pleasantly rustic, smoky strawberry and sour cherry aromas with a creamy vanilla note and light toast. The palate is full bodied, zesty and decadent with cherry, strawberry and ripe watermelon flavors, a buoyant acidity and lively texture with a bit of grapefruit zest and vanilla frosting on the finish adding some depth. 92 points Read More

  • Elementary Cellars Volume II Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2013

    Snoothrank:

Well-made wine that I think will benefit from more years of sideways. Nice suggestion of currant and, maybe, black plum on the tip of the tongue but just a suggestion. Quite serious tannin and nicely generous acids are what suggest to me that this wine is nowhere near its potential. On the other hand, Im going to very much enjoy drinking this... Read More

  • Sebastiani Merlot Sonoma County 2013

    Snoothrank:

Pretty pedestrian wine effort. This does have merlot blend structure and there is the dark berry fruit, earth and tannins, acidity all on par with a $13 merlot. 83 points - drink now - Paul Read More

  • Scott Peterson S.P. Drummer Napa Chardonnay 2015

    Snoothrank:

A recent Naked Wines selection and a great example of a balanced oak and fruit California Chardonnay.Light clear gold in the glass. Opens with cola and vanilla; then more vanilla and cream soda; then herbs. Most of this carries over to the palate along with stewed stone fruit - peaches and apricot; along with ripe melon. Very smooth and balanced... Read More

  • Myriad Cellars Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Cabernet Sauvigon 2013

    Snoothrank:

Very attractive red plum color. Dark brooding nose. On the tongue I get the hoped-for CS black fruit. However, it is quite muted--no sweetness. Then I get something like pencil lead. Some salinity. Im finding this wine not nearly as tannic as I might have guessed. Tart acid makes me want another sip. Read More
