North Coast Wine

The North Coast AVA is a region that spans eight counties and dozens of prestigious subregions within California. The Pacific Ocean creates cooling air and fog conditions that benefit quality grapegrowing. Most of the wines produced in the area use their own subregion on the label, so wines labeled North Coast are often ones made with a blend of grapes from different parts of the region.

The North Coast is further subdivided into the following regions:
Humboldt County
Lake County
Marin County
Mendocino County
Napa County
Sonoma County
Solano County
Trinity County

  • Edmeades Mendocino County 2006

    Snoothrank:

Opened Aug 2016.....this has taken on a dark burgundy color with tawny/blueberry tones on the edges. Aromas are boozy initially, but after some air this mellows out, and deep oaked and various wood characteristics along with some strong spicy smells....pepper, vanilla, and char. Super dark raisiny fruits like black cherry and plum...think the ... Read More

  • MJET, that paella (?) looks awesome! Thinking a well chilled ... of the Bedrock '13 North Coast Syrah last night with a BBQ beef brisket - most excellent.Tonight we had chicken breasts baked with home grown tomato, cannellini beans, white wine, garlic and rosemary. This was served with a not bad but not great viognier from Virginia. On the nose... Read More

  • Lyeth Meritage 2013

    Snoothrank:

Pretty purplemore blue than redcolor in the glass. Not the worlds greatest nosemay need a bit of air to blow off sulfur funk--also, some astringency. Lots of red fruit on the tip of the tongue, but, then, I get sturdy tannin and acid that gives wherewithal to this wine. Certainly, the lack of complexity prevents me from describing this a grea... A recent Tasting Room selection; Pale Gold in the glass; opens with Caramel, Cotton Candy, Mint, fresh Bread; Dry, with a full and silky mouth-feel. Very bright, with medium to light oak and smooth minimum Tannins, and high Acidity. Tasting of Moss and Earth, Orange blossoms and Vanilla. Great balance of light Oak and minimal Fruit with an Acid... Read More

  • Buehler Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

    Snoothrank:

Second opinion on this wine. Its so inexpensive, I have to keep going back to it. Some pretty serious red fruit on the tip of the tongue. Quite an easy drinker. Light on tannin/acid. Not a particularly sophisticated or complex wine, but with a simple meal, I dont think you can beat it for the (slightly over) $20 that it costsin multiple ret... Read More

  • Retro Cellars Petite Sirah Howell Mountain Old Vine 2009

    Snoothrank:

Dark plum color in the glasswell duh, its Petite Sirah. Nose suggests plum, but the color may have subverted my nose. Light fruit on entrycurrant, blackberryvery light fruit. Some tarriness under mid-palate. Quite light on tannin and acid. I guess I could describe it as balanced since no one dimension dominates. Very easy on the rear palate... Read More

  • Apsara Sauvignon Blanc Kick Ranch 2015

    Snoothrank:

Very pale yellow color. Citrus fruity nose. Big hit of acid on entry. Flavors of lemon, green apple. Definitely no herbality or grassiness. Thankfully avoids the grapefruit direction that so many California SBs seem to have these days. Very nice, easy drinker. Read More
