North Coast Wine

The North Coast AVA is a region that spans eight counties and dozens of prestigious subregions within California. The Pacific Ocean creates cooling air and fog conditions that benefit quality grapegrowing. Most of the wines produced in the area use their own subregion on the label, so wines labeled North Coast are often ones made with a blend of grapes from different parts of the region.

The North Coast is further subdivided into the following regions:
Humboldt County
Lake County
Marin County
Mendocino County
Napa County
Sonoma County
Solano County
Trinity County

  • Limerick Lane Zinfandel Rocky Knoll 2013

    Snoothrank:

Reddish purple color. Bright nose of stone fruit. Sure enough, serious ripe red plum flavor on the tip of the tongue. Some hint of bitter spiceclove-like. However, that may be the tannin. This is, pretty much, a tannic beast. However, it also has nice tart acid. I am seriously liking this wine, right now. However, the tannin and acid com... Read More

  • Staglin Chardonnay Salus 2014

    Snoothrank:

Lots of candied fruit is the initial take on this. Breaking it down a bit Im getting fresh tropical fruit---serious pineappleand caramel. Very interesting. Not surprisingly, there is a strong acid componenthence, the freshness. There is also, however, that caramelized sugar thing. I suspect that white Burgundy lovers will run screaming f... Read More

  • Frank Family Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2010

    Snoothrank:

Ready to Drink. Dark violet in color. Medium sediment. Let decant for about 1 hour prior to drinking. Nose of black currant and some remnants of blackberry. Powerful flavor up front with blackberry, black currant, and a hint of oak and tannins. Finish is dry and lasting. Continued to develop as it opened up. Read More

  • Peju Province Winery Cabernet Sauvignon Rutherford Reserve Estate Bottled 2005

    Snoothrank:

Somewhat murky prune color in the glass. Fairly complex noseoaky vanilla, tarry, green herb. Initial (may have been biased by the color), raisin, dried currant. Considerable mineral or graphite mid-to-rear palate. Tannins are, presumably, quite resolved. Acid adds refreshness and really helps, but an unfortunate bitterness (alcohol?) detrac... Read More
