North Coast Wine

The North Coast AVA is a region that spans eight counties and dozens of prestigious subregions within California. The Pacific Ocean creates cooling air and fog conditions that benefit quality grapegrowing. Most of the wines produced in the area use their own subregion on the label, so wines labeled North Coast are often ones made with a blend of grapes from different parts of the region.

The North Coast is further subdivided into the following regions:
Humboldt County
Lake County
Marin County
Mendocino County
Napa County
Sonoma County
Solano County
Trinity County

  • Seghesio Sonoma Zinfandel 2009

    Snoothrank:

Beautiful nose of wild berries, licorice, and crushed rose petals. Wonderfully rich & ripe with flavors that dont overwhelm. Full-bodied, but balanced and delicious. With layered flavors of blackberries, ripe black cherries and blueberries, some plum and with the slightest touch of smoky pepper and creamy oak, creating balance with notes of acid... Read More

  • Keenan Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2007

    Snoothrank:

Very beautiful dark plum color. Nose of dark fruit, earthiness. Terrific on the tongue. Nice suggestion of dried fruit on the tip of the tonguecassis, blueberry, and maybe, plum. Tannin does not hit until mid-palate. This wine is so easy to drink. It is very approachable now. While there is still tannin there, Im not sure there is enough ... Read More

  • Geyser Peak Winery Bin 10 Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley 2006

    Snoothrank:

The wine is a deep, inky purple at the center, with bright ruby along the edges. The nose presents aromas of blackberry, plum and cassis overlaid with some earthy notes of leather and tar. The taste is packed with jammy fruit up front, with blueberry, plum and blackberry, that transition nicely to some notes of black pepper and spice along wit... Read More

  • Franciscan Merlot Napa 2006

    Snoothrank:

The wine has an inky black color at the center leading to some bright ruby along the edges. The nose presents aromas of blackberry, prune, leather and toasted oak that seem a bit old world. The taste is much less fruit forward than I was expecting, with a bit of cassis and black licorice up front that transition nicely to some notes of dark ch... Read More

  • Teldeschi Petite Sirah Dry Creek Valley 1999

    Snoothrank:

I opened the bottle carefully (cork and age can be fickle friends) and then decanted it for about an hour. The wine is a rich, inky black at the center with bright ruby along the edges. The nose presents aromas of blackberry, plum and kisch, that just reminds me of many of the wonderful local Italian places in New York. The wine is an explosi... Read More

  • Route Stock Cabernet Sauvignon Napa 2012

    Snoothrank:

The wine is a deep, inky color in the glass with bright ruby along the edges, the classic look of a Cabernet. The nose is rather pleasant, with some leather, black fruit and a hint of mint. The taste is quite nice, with some ripe black fruit up front, blackberry and plum, that transition to some notes of cherry cola and green grass midpalate. ... Read More

  • Robert Mondavi Oakville District Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

    Snoothrank:

The wine has that classic Cabernet look, deep inky black at the center and bright ruby along the edges. The nose presents aromas of leather, oak, tobacco and dusty gravel, with just a hint of black fruit. The taste is just a classic, high-quality Napa Cabernet, with a bit of black fruit up front, blackberry and a bit of cherry, that transition... Read More

    Snoothrank:

The wine is a deep ruby color at the edges leading to an inky black at the center. The nose is a pleasant combination of leather, smoke and jammy red fruit, cherries, blackberries and plums. The taste is a rush of ripe fruit that bombards your senses, at first sweet and then a bit tart, you have ample cherry and ripe berry flavors dancing in y... Read More
