North Coast Wine

The North Coast AVA is a region that spans eight counties and dozens of prestigious subregions within California. The Pacific Ocean creates cooling air and fog conditions that benefit quality grapegrowing. Most of the wines produced in the area use their own subregion on the label, so wines labeled North Coast are often ones made with a blend of grapes from different parts of the region.

The North Coast is further subdivided into the following regions:
Humboldt County
Lake County
Marin County
Mendocino County
Napa County
Sonoma County
Solano County
Trinity County

  • Robert Mondavi Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

    Snoothrank:

Not the kind of wine you want to sipmore the kind of wine that you want to accompany food. It is very full-bodied. So, it will with a robust meala beef... Read More

  • Sullivan Vineyards Merlot Rutherford 2000

    Snoothrank:

I've had several bottles from this vintage and have found them to be hit or miss. When they hit, as this one did last night, you have wonderful notes of violet, stewed meats, graphite and black licorice. I think we drink wines too young and I too am often guilty, so it's nice to grab something with a little age on it from time to time. Held up f... Read More

  • Matanzas Creek Winery Sauvignon Blanc Bennett Valley 2013

    Snoothrank:

Sawdust aromas immediately on the nose with pencil shavings and nectarine fruit shining through the oaky notes. Highly floral in the mouth, showing a bit of golden berries and pear, and finishing very tartly lemony. Curious and complex and tasty. Read More
