North Coast Wine

The North Coast AVA is a region that spans eight counties and dozens of prestigious subregions within California. The Pacific Ocean creates cooling air and fog conditions that benefit quality grapegrowing. Most of the wines produced in the area use their own subregion on the label, so wines labeled North Coast are often ones made with a blend of grapes from different parts of the region.

The North Coast is further subdivided into the following regions:
Humboldt County
Lake County
Marin County
Mendocino County
Napa County
Sonoma County
Solano County
Trinity County

  • Becklyn Sauvignon Blanc Mcgah Vineyard 2016

    Snoothrank:

Very herbal nose. Not so much on the tongue. On the tongue there is the grapefruit sensation that seems to be endemic with most SBs, but, thankfully there are other flavor sensations that add to the experience: definitely, some tropical fruitpineappleand, also, some slate. Nice acid provides refreshing crispness. Read More

  • Liparita 'V Block' Yountville Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

    Snoothrank:

Lots of blue in the color moves it away from red. Very little fruit on entrysome blueberry, some cassis. Maybe I would describe it as dried fruitplumwithout sweetness. More savoriness than I normally get in CS. Tannins are quite stiff. Read More

  • Sbragia Zinfandel Gino's Vineyard 2012

    Snoothrank:

Dark purple in the glass with just the slightest amount of light passing through. Quite funky noseprobably Sulphur that hasnt blown off, yet. Lots of tart cherry on the tip of the tongue. Then some stoniness. Certainly not the biggest Zin Ive ever had, but enjoyable. Light-ish on tannin, but strong on acid. A very pleasant prickly sensatio... Read More

  • Marietta Cellars Angeli Cuvee 2013

    Snoothrank:

Easy wine to drink--just not terribly sophisticated. Candied red fruit on entry. Then some tarry notes. Not particularly tannic or full-bodied. The saving grace is that there is sufficient tartness to keep this from being declared a fruit bomb. Read More
