North Coast Wine

The North Coast AVA is a region that spans eight counties and dozens of prestigious subregions within California. The Pacific Ocean creates cooling air and fog conditions that benefit quality grapegrowing. Most of the wines produced in the area use their own subregion on the label, so wines labeled North Coast are often ones made with a blend of grapes from different parts of the region.
The North Coast is further subdivided into the following regions:
Humboldt County
Lake County
Marin County
Mendocino County
Napa County
Sonoma County
Solano County
Trinity County

  • Martin Ray Vineyards & Winery Sauvignon Blanc Russian River Valley 2015

Grassy notes of golden berries, lemon zest and peach on the nose. Delicate on entry, this develops a tart acidity through the mid-palate and shows more lemon zest, white peach and blossom notes with a green note of beeswax and cut lawn towards the finish. Read More

  • Chloe Red Blend 2013

Inky purple/black hues and clear in the coloration. This wine has amazingly rich cocoa/milk chocolate aromas with background notes of molasses/toffee, super smooth oak wood and is has cream smoothness on the nostrils. Flavors follow suit, but with deep ripe, black berry goodness, vanilla bean and subtle spice. Mouthfeel is velvety, medium bod... Read More

  • Buehler Vineyards Napa Valley Zinfandel 2012

Fairly light for a Buehler but then the '12 wasn't the best for several Zin producers. Some dark and red berry fruits, spice, plum and herbal notes. Better than before - 88 pts - drink now - Paul Read More

  • Moshin Pinot Noir Molinari 2010

Just a great Russian River Pinot from Moshin. This is not your sister's pinot, big and ripe but really well balanced. Ripe black cherries, strawberries and blackberries on the nose. On the tongue, more black cherry, leather, a touch of smoke, high but not over the top acidity, fine grain tannin, finish is medium long. Serious QPR here. Read More

  • Ceritas Elliott Vineyard Pinot Noir 2012

Similiar to my previous comments. Lots of light coming through the wine in the glasspretty red plum color. Delicate nose, slightly flowerygeraniumslightly fruitylight strawberry. Quite light on the tongue. Slight suggestion of strawberry, but, more interestingly a flavor of, more than anything else, cinnamon. Nice acid on the rear of the to... Read More

  • Martin Ray Stags Leap Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

Very attractive plum color in the glass. Very fruity aromas. Lots of black currant on the tongue. Then, some pretty stiff tannins appear. This gives the scratchiness that suggests tobacco. A big, full-bodied wine. I had a bit of this leftover for Day 2. It seems that a day of sitting has muted this wine, a bit. It seems less fruity and le... Read More
