North Coast Wine

The North Coast AVA is a region that spans eight counties and dozens of prestigious subregions within California. The Pacific Ocean creates cooling air and fog conditions that benefit quality grapegrowing. Most of the wines produced in the area use their own subregion on the label, so wines labeled North Coast are often ones made with a blend of grapes from different parts of the region.

The North Coast is further subdivided into the following regions:
Humboldt County
Lake County
Marin County
Mendocino County
Napa County
Sonoma County
Solano County
Trinity County

  • Martin Ray "Synthesis" Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

    Snoothrank:

Good complexity on the nose with dark blackberry and violet petal aromas with sweet spice and creamy notes of chocolate and black olive. Very expressive fruit palate with blackberry preserves, black currant and rich dark chocolate that carries a silky texture up front leading towards firm tannins on the finish. There's a nice acidity throughout ... Read More

  • Provenance Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Rutherford 2013

    Snoothrank:

Fairly light nose of some cassis fruit. Predictably, there is cassis on the tip of the tonguenot too abrupt, though. As the wine passes back, there is some powdered cocoa and some earthiness. (Is that Rutherford dust?) Fairly sedate tannin and mild acid make this a very easy-drinking Cabernet Sauvignon. Not the biggest, most full-bodied ca... Read More
