North Coast Wine

The North Coast AVA is a region that spans eight counties and dozens of prestigious subregions within California. The Pacific Ocean creates cooling air and fog conditions that benefit quality grapegrowing. Most of the wines produced in the area use their own subregion on the label, so wines labeled North Coast are often ones made with a blend of grapes from different parts of the region.

The North Coast is further subdivided into the following regions:
Humboldt County
Lake County
Marin County
Mendocino County
Napa County
Sonoma County
Solano County
Trinity County

  • St. Clement Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley Oroppas 2005

    Snoothrank:

Big Black fruit up front on the nose! Wow! Nice structure and a great end palate where it all comes together for this wine! The flagship for St Clement does not dissappoint! Nice wine! Enjoy! Cheers! Read More

  • JonDerry,I am a big Pinot fan, but of a tiny population.  I will say firstly, that, Sideways aside, I typically do NOT care for Pinot from the Santa Barbara area (Sta. Rita hills, los olivos, Lompoc, etc, etc).  It is overcooked, purple and big to me.  When down that way, everyone was raving about Clos Pepe.. I was not overly impressed.  Just no... Read More

  • Sbragia Family Chardonnay Dry Creek Valley Home Ranch 2008

    Snoothrank:

Golden hue. Appears oxygen is getting the best of this wine (unsure how well it was kept prior to my purchase). Rather odd aroma of wet grains, like beer wort. A savory cashew, pistachio nuttiness. Guava, dried pineapple and quince paste on the nose as well. Pear tart, toasted brioche, heavy baking spices especially nutmeg on the palate. V... Read More

  • Flowers Chardonnay Sonoma Coast 2009

    Snoothrank:

Light straw color in the glass. Caramel/buttery bouquet. Very nice on the palate.Caramel/butter thing is not as noticeable. Medium-bodied. Some fruit things--tart apple, maybe some lemon on the side of the tongue. Very pleasant diminuendo on the finish. US$34.89 at the Wine Club in Santa Ana Read More

  • Dunn Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain 1995

    Snoothrank:

Open oer 24 hours and I got the last bit, so I believe oxygen robbed me of this experience. Nose of stewed red berry and currant. Tomato leaf and red berry compote aromas. Oxidation setting in. All red currant and stewed red fruit with some herbs. Read More

  • Sbragia Family Cabernet Sauvignon Sonoma County Monte Rosso Vineyard 2002

    Snoothrank:

Beautiful perfume of red berry. Aromas of currant, raspberry, strawberry and cherry with licorice hints. Luscious ripe red berry fruit on the palate. This wine is peaking now in my opinion. Ripe red currant and cherry flavors. Really beautiful fruit. Great acidity and tannin still, but is driven by pretty fruit tones. Very fragrant. Drin... Read More

  • Chateau St. Jean Merlot 2010

    Snoothrank:

Bold berry and plum flavors combined with mellow spices make this wine easy to accept, enjoy and understand. The tannins and texture are finely balanced. 15 minutes into the wine and blackberry becomes very apparent and exciting. Pricing is very reasonable with this all around winner. Read More

  • Hobo Zinfandel Dry Creek Valley 2010

    Snoothrank:

An interesting if unremarkable Zinfandel. Interesting because it often the best California red available in some restaurants. The wine is slightly dilute, with notes of blackberry. One can't help wondering if a slightly lower alcohol percentage than 14.4 would help round out this wine. Read More

Lovely red aromas with hints of camphor, currant, cassis. Luscious and sexy on the palate with a pretty profile. Good balance. Soft and sexy. Short finish, otherwise, really nice. 70% Cabernet Sauvignon15% Merlot15% Cabernet Franc88 pts.5/10/1 at winery Read More
