North Coast Wine

The North Coast AVA is a region that spans eight counties and dozens of prestigious subregions within California. The Pacific Ocean creates cooling air and fog conditions that benefit quality grapegrowing. Most of the wines produced in the area use their own subregion on the label, so wines labeled North Coast are often ones made with a blend of grapes from different parts of the region.

The North Coast is further subdivided into the following regions:
Humboldt County
Lake County
Marin County
Mendocino County
Napa County
Sonoma County
Solano County
Trinity County

  • Keenan Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2009

    Snoothrank:

On the tip of the tongue I am getting a quite light hit of black fruit. Anti-fruit-forwards, this might be your wine. The wine has to, pretty much, sit on your tongue for a few seconds before fruit is detected. Very interesting. Still some quite stiff tannin. As the wine warms, a bit, I seem to get more berry flavor, but, again, more toward... Read More

  • Flora Springs Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc 2016

    Snoothrank:

Spiced white pepper notes and hints of pineapple and grapefruit on the nose. Fresh lemongrass and tart grapefruit flavors in the mouth with a boisterous acidity and a finish of light cream and fresh green melon. Read More

  • Butler Pond California Merlot 2015

    Snoothrank:

True to merlot varital with pepper spice at the finish. Good staying power in the fridge. Wish it had more personality prior to the finish but that's the merlot. It was true to the varietal. If I was measuring that alone, I'd give it 5 stars. Read More

  • Girard Winery Artistry Napa Valley 2012

    Snoothrank:

Some phenols on the nose. Cassisslightly sweet--on the tip of the tongue. Then some stiff tannin. Then, unfortunately, some alcoholic heat. An OK wine, but probably not particularly memorable one. Read More

  • Limerick Lane 1910 Block Zinfandel 2014

    Snoothrank:

An eminently likeable wine. Red berry and stone fruit on entry. Then some serious tannin jumps in. However, the fruit still lingers a bit. Very good acid content really helps this one become a winner. I think this might be a wine that will grow in complexity with several more years of aging. Read More

  •  I put in "California" and it gave me exactly one restaurant in Glen Ellen.I've been there.  That is where I first met Outthere and Foxall.  And, I have to add, it's a darned good restaurant.I am not a fan of "Apps," but I went to the website on my PC, entered "California" and it gave me 10 "matching records" ranging from Glen Ellen in the north... • Frank Dusak Viognier 2015

    Snoothrank:

A recent Naked Wines selection and a good one at that. Pale and clear silver gold in the glass. Opens with a yeasty peach blossom; then lime and kumquat, then a bit of bruised grass blade and lime zest. Medium body and medium acidity. Finishes nicely with most of the opening aromas carrying over to the palate becoming more and more smooth as it ... Read More

  • Enkidu Sauvignon Blanc 2015

    Snoothrank:

Very much and herbal/grassy nose. Interesting combination of herbalness and stone fruit is my initial tongue sensation. Then, there is a lemon pith sensation. The lemon sensation seems to linger a bit giving good refreshment. After a few minutes of air, stone fruit sensations seem more emergent. Read More
