North Coast Wine

The North Coast AVA is a region that spans eight counties and dozens of prestigious subregions within California. The Pacific Ocean creates cooling air and fog conditions that benefit quality grapegrowing. Most of the wines produced in the area use their own subregion on the label, so wines labeled North Coast are often ones made with a blend of grapes from different parts of the region.

The North Coast is further subdivided into the following regions:
Humboldt County
Lake County
Marin County
Mendocino County
Napa County
Sonoma County
Solano County
Trinity County

  • Rodney Strong Chardonnay Estate Chalk Hill 2014

    Snoothrank:

Bright and fruity aromas of green apple and peach with honeysuckle and vanilla on the nose. Wonderfully thick and full in the mouth, this has tart fresh citrus notes coming through powerfully in the center, round and firm yet quite zesty and lively throughout and turning to more lemon and light butter towards the finish With a hint of white pepper. • Davis Bynum Jane's Vineyard Dijon Clone 777 Pinot Noir Russian River Valley 2013

    Snoothrank:

Violet petal and cinnamon notes on the nose with aromas of ripe cherry blossom and hints of red licorice. Turns a little more herbal in the mouth, showing earthy streaks of tar, cedar and more ripe cherry and cranberry notes demonstrating a good fruit core and a fresh acidity throughout that ends on a stony, earthy note. • Keenan Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 2001

    Snoothrank:

Dark purple color. Woodsy nose with, maybe, a suggestion of licorice. Interesting entry. I dont get any fruit sensation on the tip of the tonguesome heat, some tannin. Not until mid-palate do I get characteristic black currant suggestions. A bit of tartness on the back of the palate, but nothing terribly distracting. Its difficult to say ... Read More

  • Limerick Lane Syrah Grenache 2013

    Snoothrank:

Flowery nosegeranium, violet. Combination of fruit and pepper on entryblueberry, plum with spiciness. The wine washes very nicely over the tongue. To my way of thinking, amazingly balanced fruit/tannin/acidI get all three, but none dominate. Read More

  • Roots Run Deep Educated Guess Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

    Snoothrank:

Opens with Plum, Cedar, Oak, and Vanilla; then on to Plum and Bing Cherry; finishes with a bit of Slate, Vanilla, Mint, and Concord Grape. A big, full mouthful with a long long finish of stewed fruit, Blackberry, Licorice, and Milk Chocolate. Cannot remember when or where I picked this bottle up, but wish I had more. Read More
