North Coast Wine

The North Coast AVA is a region that spans eight counties and dozens of prestigious subregions within California. The Pacific Ocean creates cooling air and fog conditions that benefit quality grapegrowing. Most of the wines produced in the area use their own subregion on the label, so wines labeled North Coast are often ones made with a blend of grapes from different parts of the region.

The North Coast is further subdivided into the following regions:
Humboldt County
Lake County
Marin County
Mendocino County
Napa County
Sonoma County
Solano County
Trinity County

North Coast on Snooth

  • Apsara Sauvignon Blanc Rivers Reach 2014

    Snoothrank:

Very pretty clear yellow color. Lots of fresh fruit aromas, but its hard to pin anything down. On the tongue, it is nice to get just a hint of grapefruit instead of that full-on, in-your-face blast that so many SBs seem to have these days. Also, some melon flavor. Some grassiness. Very restrained on the acidspeaks to the control of the grap... Read More

  • Beringer Private Reserve Chardonnay 2012

    Snoothrank:

Consistent, clear yellow color. Fairly big oaky nosemelon, vanilla. First taste sensation on the tip of the tongue is butterscotch. Then some melon. Spritziness towards the back of the tongue/palate. Butter bomb, to me. Needs acid. Read More

  • Ramey Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2005

    Snoothrank:

Deep purple opaque color that is consistent across the glass. Fairly volatile nose suggesting higher alcohol. On the tongue, though, there are no worries about alcoholic heat. Very moderate up-front fruitsome currant, something like prune, but very, very restrained. Very sedate tannin, nicely supportive acid. I enjoyed a bottle of this wine... Read More

  • Old World Winery Fog Line Two Vineyards 2007

    Snoothrank:

Deep purple opaque in color. Moderate nose suggesting blueberry. Fairly fruity on entry. Blueberry is there, but also a jammy suggestion. Some spiciness at the back of the palatesomething like cinnamon or clove. Then, again, it almost like chocolate. Moderately tannicwhich was a bit of a surprise to meand good acid. Read More

  • Newton Chardonnay Unfiltered Napa 2012

    Snoothrank:

Very nice Napa chard. There's plenty of creamy lemon custard, some caramel, subtle spiceness, decent acidity, some green apple and a medium finish. Fairly well balanced, with nice mouthfeel. Have had the '06 and '09 in the past and seem to remember those vintages having a bit more acidity. Read More

  • Robert Keenan Winery Syrah Napa Valley 2011

    Snoothrank:

Something of a viney nose, a bit of black fruit aroma. On the tongue this initially seems to be a very austere winesome blackberry and black plum flavor, fairly tart, and not mouth-filling. Little or no tannin puckeriness. Quite surprising for a Spring Mountain red wine. Read More

  • Rombauer Zinfandel California 2012

    Snoothrank:

This wine is the reason I joined Snooth. It is my favorite wine, by far. It is rich, decadent, and reasonably priced for a wine of such high quality. It is the only wine that I purchase by the case. I love it that much. Read More

  • Atalon Pauline's Cuvee Napa Valley 2012

    Snoothrank:

Black cherry, blackberry preserves and crushed violet aromas with hints of dark chocolate and youthful character. Full and rich in the mouth, with gripping tannins, blackberry and blueberry, nicely integrated oak and vanilla notes, a touch of smoke and leather, tree bark and some licorice and dark chocolate on the long finish.
