North Coast Wine

The North Coast AVA is a region that spans eight counties and dozens of prestigious subregions within California. The Pacific Ocean creates cooling air and fog conditions that benefit quality grapegrowing. Most of the wines produced in the area use their own subregion on the label, so wines labeled North Coast are often ones made with a blend of grapes from different parts of the region.

The North Coast is further subdivided into the following regions:
Humboldt County
Lake County
Marin County
Mendocino County
Napa County
Sonoma County
Solano County
Trinity County

  • Imagery Sangiovese Sonoma County 2012

    Snoothrank:

Very pretty garnet red color. Tart, cherry nose. Some cherry on entry but it is then muted. At first I thought this one lacked acid, but then it popped up. Fruitier than an Italian rendition but almost as acidic. Read More

  • Davis Bynum Pinot Noir Jane's Vineyard 2013

    Snoothrank:

Ripe cherry and cinnamon warmly reach out of the glass in this fruit forward and floral Pinot. Floral and smooth on the palate, with touches of cinnamon and clove, light red currant and cherry flavors, hints of herbs and a touch of licorice. The long finish is herbal and lightly oaked for a pleasant memory. Read More

  • Schug Chardonnay Sonoma Coast 2013

    Snoothrank:

Light peach and lemon aromas with a touch of baked apple and a creamy note that's a reminiscent of rice pudding. Rich and full in the mouth, with lemon, peach, orange blossom and green apple flavors, toast and vanilla and a finish that hints at more acidity and oak than is found on the attack. Read More

  • Ceritas Hellenthal Vineyard Pinot Noir 2012

    Snoothrank:

Dull red color with a fair amount of light coming through. Nose of red fruit but also some dusty earthiness. Initial flavors are of candied red fruitcherry or strawberry. That fades to a hint of minerality. Reasonable acid perks things up. Medium bodied. Fairly short finish. Actually, this is the kind of red wine that could easily be a s... Read More
