  • ATF labeling laws.  They care where the grapes come from, not where it was vinified.  And NO nipples allowed. Some of that long drive is because the roads are secondary in places.  Lots of it is just because California is really long and skinny.  You grow most of your grapes on the coast so that's the north-south direction, the long one.  BTW, R... • Found Snooth by accident.  My wife and I are from Northern California, love wine, all kinds.  But that said, I am curious if anyone has found a Valpolicella "type" wine, Ripasso, or otherwise Italian style wine made here in Nor Cal.  I bumped into a winemaker in Auburn a couple of years ago who made a Ripasso wine (it was awesome); but he makes ... • Loken Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 2007

    Snoothrank:

Nose opens on a roasty note to a somewhat incense nuance over red currant and blackberry fruit. Ripe, somewhat tart berry fruit, mostly red on the palate. Firm tannins and some woody tones. Bright acid, which is almost too much so giving it a tartness. Didn't have that when I have tried before. All in all, a nice drinking cab. Read More

  • Pilot Peak Petite Sirah Nevada County 2005

    Snoothrank:

I'm not sure that Sierra Nevada wineries will ever make it to the mainstream, but if they do Pilot Peak is likely to lead the way. Though the winemaker tends towards sweet desert wine styles at times, the Petit Serah and Viognier offerings are true to form. This wine is spicy with red currant and plum, and benefits from a nice level of tannin du... Read More

  • Californias Sierra foothills appellation spans across some of the least heralded great wine producing regions of the state. Unlike Napa and Sonoma, Cabernet Sauvignon did not serve as a historic touchstone here, though the history of wine production is almost as long. In contrast to the hype and glitter of newer regions propelled to fame by fadd... Read More
