St. Helena is known as the “heart of the Napa Valley” wine region of California. Ironically, this thriving town built on the wine industry gets its name from the 1850s St. Helena Chapter (named for the mountain in the distance) of the Sons of Temperance, an organization dedicated to the reform and prevention of “drunkards.”

He not only pioneered European varietal plantings, but also fermentation techniques and the careful selection of root stocks. In the mid 1870s, the Beringers followed in his footsteps, establishing what would become the longest continuous winery in Napa. Snoothrank:

Ripe, vivid aromatics of currant, florals and hazelnut-scented oak. Sleek yet muscular package with rich intense tannins all in balance. Sweet fruit and oak on the nose, nearly pinot scented. Great structure and balance between bold tannin and extremely ripe fruit.- Tasted at Marché Bacchus 4/24/10 Read More

Anyway, we began the day with a drive through St. Helena up the mountain to Pride Mountain Vineyards, as my friend had arranged another tasting for us.  We were greeted with a small pour of the chardonnay and once our group was com...
