Carneros Wine

Los Carneros- The first AVA one comes to as one splits off the Napa Vallejo Highway and takes route 29 towards the City of Napa from the south is Los Carneros. Reaching from close to the southern border of the county to the southwestern edge of the City, Carneros was the first AVA to be determined solely by climate. It has the unusual honor of spanning across the southern reaches of both Sonoma and Napa counties. The climate here is cool, think summer in San Francisco, and while the average rainfall is the lowest in Napa Valley it can be a humid region due the fog that rolls in off the bay. These conditions are ideal for the so-called cool climate grapes of Burgundy. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay rule the roost here yielding ripe yet balanced wines with fresh acidity and a round, friendly feel. Merlot is a distant third, though the cool, crisp quality of the fruit can produce attractively elegant examples and an excellent structural component for blending. Carneros on Snooth

  • Artesa Estate Reserve Chardonnay Carneros 2014

    Snoothrank:

Lightly yeasty aromas with pleasant oak coming out of the glass with lovely apple and pear fruit with hints of lemon and white blossom. This is wonderfully expressive on the palate with a firm but rich mouthfeel and finely integrated oak notes that are creamy and vanilla. This turns almost smoky towards the finish with notes of caramel and light... Read More

  • Artesa Single Vineyard Chardonnay Estate Block 92 Carneros 2014

    Snoothrank:

Good fresh fruit aromas here with peach and apple notes with a hint of fresh citrus, light smoke and a hint of vanilla. A bit tart in the mouth that quickly turns gently towards apple notes that are quite creamy sloping on to the finish with notes of pleasant toast and wildflower and a hint of light spice adds a nice complexity. • Frank Family Vineyards Chardonnay Napa Carneros 2014

    Snoothrank:

Plump green apple and pear fruit aromas with honey glazing and floral notes of wild blossom. This is quite rich and velvety in the mouth with more fresh green apple and baked apple spice, peach, hints of tart lemon and a bit of pineapple thrown in. A well-balanced full, round mouthfeel here with well integrated oak cream bringing up the finish e... Read More

  • Starmont Merlot 2012

    Snoothrank:

From completely unknown to Holy Cow! in one glass. This is absolutely beautiful. Plenty of dark berry fruits with additional plum and dark cherries on the finish. Earthy tones and tomato leaf meld with mellowed tannins and balanced acidity make this really easy to drink. Wonderful wine, great wine making here. Drink or hold - Paul 91 points Read More
