Carneros Wine

Los Carneros- The first AVA one comes to as one splits off the Napa Vallejo Highway and takes route 29 towards the City of Napa from the south is Los Carneros. Reaching from close to the southern border of the county to the southwestern edge of the City, Carneros was the first AVA to be determined solely by climate. It has the unusual honor of spanning across the southern reaches of both Sonoma and Napa counties. The climate here is cool, think summer in San Francisco, and while the average rainfall is the lowest in Napa Valley it can be a humid region due the fog that rolls in off the bay. These conditions are ideal for the so-called cool climate grapes of Burgundy. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay rule the roost here yielding ripe yet balanced wines with fresh acidity and a round, friendly feel. Merlot is a distant third, though the cool, crisp quality of the fruit can produce attractively elegant examples and an excellent structural component for blending. Carneros on Snooth

  • OK, here's the scoop. In 2001 Domaine Carneros bought the property from the Stornetta Family who are legendary in Sonoma County for their milk and other dairy products. The land was grazing pasture for milk cows. Talk about terrior!Anyhow, the 140 acre parcel is planted to Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The grapes are used in Domaine Carneros Sparkli... Read More

  • Acacia Pinot Noir Napa Valley Carneros 2007

    Snoothrank:

Somewhat murky in the glass. Very light nose with some mushroomy thing going on, there. Very pleasant initial taste that includes noticeable fruit--cherry, maybe, some raspberry, and maybe the tartness makes me think lemon--but it doesn't blow me away. A medium-bodied wine. Some unfortunate rancid hints in the finish, but I will have no trou... Read More

  • Bouchaine Chardonnay Estate 2010

    Snoothrank:

Noticeable oaky bouquet, but not overbearing. Fairly neutral on the tip of the tongue, but, then, big, refreshing lemony acid from mid-palate through the back of the throat. Nut flavors on the finish. US$19.69 at Costco in Chino Hills. Read More

Very nice Martin Ray Chardonnay from Carneros. Light and crisp with really nice acidity. Creamy lemon and green apple notes cover the mid-palate and hang on for a medium+ finish. Extremely enjoyable for the price. Read More
