for this region?

The climate of this appellation is unique, partly because its elevation frees it from the fog which blankets the valley below in the afternoon. Also, since it faces west, the region benefits from extended, direct afternoon sunlight. The soils are volcanic and porous, contributing greatly to radiant cooling. The temperature can drop as much as 30°F in the afternoon, allowing grapes to maintain good acidity. Zinfandel is emerging as the best varietal for the appellation’s growing conditions. However, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese are also planted here. Located on the western slope of the Vaca Mountains, northeast of the city of Napa, this AVA has over 1,500 acres of vines in a region of 11,000 acres. Grapes have been grown within the region for well over 100 years. – Description from Appellation America (view original content)

  • Lot 133 Atlas Peak Chardonnay 2008

    Snoothrank:

Roasted nuts with bananas and apples, actually reminds me of Kellogs Sugar Smacks, the cereal with the frog on the box. Also applies to generics. Decent body, kind of sharp, the aftertaste is kind of metallic. Not my favorite, but interesting. Read More

  • Lot 133 Atlas Peak Chardonnay 2008

    Snoothrank:

One swirl and you get springtime -- white flowers, wet pears, soft sugary lemon. On the palate it's a lesson in Chardonnay, in melted butterscotch, in tropical tree fruit & toasty oak. Polished-wood notes cling for a long finish. Read More

Creamy soft banana nose with just a hint of old candy cane. A nice mixture of cream and mint with that signature bruised fruit malolactic fermentation flavor I've grown to love about certain Chards. Good good stuff. Read More

  • Turley Zinfandel Paso Robles 2006

    Snoothrank:

It has a subtle entry followed by a nice explosion of exotic fruit and silky smooth mouthfeel. The finish is peppery and spice driven. We LOVE this wine. It has the fruit forwardness and the graceful overall composition that drives us to drunkdom... the alcohol level is a little bit high. :)We definitely want to search out some more Turley's. !!... • Levendi Stagecoach Vineyard Syrah 2005

    Snoothrank:

This Syrah is quickly becoming my favorite. Dark purple, with a blackberry aroma. On the palate, the ultra-smooth mouthfeel is impressive, and the flavors of berries blend nicely with some hints of spice. No one flavor dominates this wine. Takes a little bit of breathing but then it is excellent drinking. Read More
