Anderson Valley Wine

Anderson Valley AVA is located within Mendocino County in the North Coast region of California. It’s considered one of the coolest regions in the state, with dense areas of fog, cool winds and rain, with just enough sun to favor conditions for a long growing season, leading to balanced acid structure in the grapes.

Anderson Valley is named for a mid 1800s pioneer family who isolated themselves from the rest of the frontier packs and were drawn to the valley’s natural beauty, fertile grounds and abundant wildlife. It wasn’t until the 1890s that an influx of Italian immigrants found their to the valley and settled in the Greenwood Ridge section, which is considerably higher, sunnier and warmer than the lower parts of the valley. These immigrants are credited with starting the practice of commercial Read more »

  • Today I've done a 3.5 mile walk with my father-in-law (longer than usual ... 2009 Navarro Pinot Noir from Anderson Valley.  Funny, I don't see the year on the Domain Serene bottle and it's already been picked up by the recycling truck.  Anyway, both wines were excellent and they were chosen from our cella Read More

  • Roederer Estate Brut NV

Really nice Anderson Valley bubbly. Tight and abundant bubbles, a nice yeasty nose. Dry and citrusy with a bit of bread dough and creamy lemon on the palate. The finish is medium long with a kick of lemon drop on the end. This has excellent QPR. Read More

  • Copain Pinot Noir Tous Ensemble 2011

Not a particularly well-balanced wine but very interesting and positive for the price. Delicate but assertive, the nose has some funk and leathery aspects that contrast with the juicy mouth feel. Not overly-fruity but juicy with some tart notes. Finishes where it started with oak and vanilla. Quite a ride! Read More
