Anderson Valley Wine

Anderson Valley AVA is located within Mendocino County in the North Coast region of California. It’s considered one of the coolest regions in the state, with dense areas of fog, cool winds and rain, with just enough sun to favor conditions for a long growing season, leading to balanced acid structure in the grapes.

Anderson Valley is named for a mid 1800s pioneer family who isolated themselves from the rest of the frontier packs and were drawn to the valley’s natural beauty, fertile grounds and abundant wildlife. Soon, other settlers, mainly the Swiss and those from the Eastern US, came to join them. Most early attempts at wine-making failed due to cold and frost conditions near the valley floor. It wasn’t until the 1890s that an influx of Italian immigrants found their to the valley and settled in the Greenwood Ridge section, which is considerably higher, sunnier and warmer than the lower parts of the valley. These immigrants are credited with starting the practice of commercial Read more »

  • So JD - Happy Anniversary.  I'm curious about the connection of the ... house and the vineyards in Anderson Valley, California (which we visited in 2012).  I don't see a reference to the US production on the French web site.  I loved the 2007 Pinot Noir that we tasted at the Roederer Estate Winery.  Also, do you still have the bottle?  You can... • Valdez Family Winery Zinfandel St. Peter's Church Vineyard 2009

    Snoothrank:

This is a big, dark Anderson Valley zin from Valdez, probably the least restrained they make. Loads of ripe black cherries, blackberries, fig, dried plum along with a touch of smoke and spice. This wine carries its not shy alcohol of 15.2% very well. The tannins are smooth and well integrated along with a fairly long finish. Read More

  • I thought it was comparable with several Pinot Noirs we've tasted from Anderson Valley,CA.  However, I have enjoyed the Pinot Noir from the Willamette Valley in Oregon a bit more.  Tonight with dinner we have a very tasty house wine that is a Cabernet Sauvignon blend.  Read More

  • Wilde Farm Donnelly Creek Pinot Noir Anderson Valley 2013

    Snoothrank:

Fairly dark color in the glass blocking much light. Quite pleasant nosecherry or strawberry, some vanilla, some light mint. Nicely attractive on the tongue. I get that fruitiness that was detected on the nose, and Im having a tough time deciding if it is cherry or more strawberry. Some stoniness. Very light on the tannin and very pleasant a... Read More

  • Ceritas Pinot Noir Hacienda Secoya Vineyard 2012

    Snoothrank:

Lots of light comes through the garnet color. Fairly perfumey nosecherry blossoms, violets. Quite light-bodiedI guess this was forecasted by the light coming through in the glass. Abrupt hit of cherry flavor on introduction, but the lightness of the wine keeps it away from the cough syrup taste that I get in a lot of PNs. No tannin at all. ... Read More

  • Navarro Vineyards Anderson Valley Mendocino Muscat Blanc 2012

    Snoothrank:

Real nice Mendocino muscat blanc. Fresh lemon citrus on the nose and creamy tangerine and apricot on the palate. Just a slight bit of sweetness on the front end that coats the tongue followed quickly by a nice bite of acidity and a medium length finish. Read More
