Anderson Valley Wine

Anderson Valley AVA is located within Mendocino County in the North Coast region of California. It’s considered one of the coolest regions in the state, with dense areas of fog, cool winds and rain, with just enough sun to favor conditions for a long growing season, leading to balanced acid structure in the grapes.

Anderson Valley is named for a mid 1800s pioneer family who isolated themselves from the rest of the frontier packs and were drawn to the valley’s natural beauty, fertile grounds and abundant wildlife. Soon, other settlers, mainly the Swiss and those from the Eastern US, came to join them. Most early attempts at wine-making failed due to cold and frost conditions near the valley floor. It wasn’t until the 1890s that an influx of Italian immigrants found their to the valley and settled in the Greenwood Ridge section, which is considerably higher, sunnier and warmer than the lower parts of the valley. These immigrants are credited with starting the practice of commercial Read more »

  • Rhys Pinot Noir Anderson Valley Bearwallow Vineyard 2011

    Snoothrank:

Pretty garnet color. Fairly fruity nose. Very light bodied on the tongue. Some hints of red cherry, maybe, strawberry, but pretty subtle. At mid-palate good supporting acid appears. At rear palate and on the finish there is some sort of funkmay be Sulphur, may be bacterialthat really detracts. Read More

  • Champ de Reves Vineyards Pinot Noir Anderson Valley 2013

    Snoothrank:

Elegantly spiced cherry cola and black raspberry aromas with floral notes of crushed violets and a hint of rosemary. This is a bit tart on the palate with fruit forward notes of blueberry, spiced black cherry and red licorice. Well textured tannins grace the mid palate and lead into a finish of cinnamon spice, cranberry, cherry compote and a tou... Read More

  • Cabot Pinot Noir Nash Mill Vineyard 2011

    Snoothrank:

Red plum colorslightly darker than most trendy California PNs you see these days. Interesting fruit flavors on entrysome black cherry but more stone fruit, plum, I guess. Medium-bodied. Fruit is neutralized mid-palate with earthiness and acid. Acid is what really makes this an enjoyable wine. Read More
