  • Cakebread Cellars Zinfandel Red Hills Lake County Snows Lake Vineyard 2005

Brambly on the nose with powder sugar and meaty, slightly gamy, leather tones that highlight the very ripe fruit. Bright appley acidity on the nose contrasts with the dark, figgy fruit tones. In the mouth this is fairly precise feeling with soft tannins that are well managed and a bit of bitter spice tones that recall licorice and star anise bui... Read More

  • By far the most famous appellation in California, and for that matter in the USA is the Napa Valley. Encompassing virtually all of Napa County as well as 14 distinct AVAs (American Viticultural Area), this extensive valley system, about an hours drive north of San Francisco, is home to the cradle of Californias viticultural history. While Caber... Read More

  • It had been many years since I had visited the cantina of Fedrizzi and this was a different sort of visit. When I was much younger, my family would buy wine in bulk from Fedrizzi and I fondly remember their fine Teroldego. While it is still possible to buy wine in bulk here, their finest cuvees are now sold in bottle, befitting their fine quality... • Enkidu Petite Sirah Red Hills Lake County Diener Ranch 2003

Dark and inky but thankfully this is a few years old so it's had time to mellow out. At first it was a bit hot on the nose, but this blew off and was left with some nice peppery aromas. Intense blackberry flavors but a very enjoyable after taste. Read More

  • Enkidu Petite Sirah Red Hills Lake County Diener Ranch 2003

Still incredibly dark in the glass the color here has begun to show some of the softening of age. Very spicy nose with a blend of typical wood tones and notes of baked black plums, strong cigar box, leather, dried beef and a light mineral tone. Big and chewy in the mouth but balanced and fresh with bright acidity and fine tannins, that are sli... Read More

  • Enkidu Petite Sirah Red Hills Lake County Diener Ranch 2003

White pepper on the nose, still a deep, dark, rich wine. Well balanced, but i bet it was hot in its youth, but a big wine overall. Rich, deep stewed fruits: plums, cherries. Nice minerality as well, and I'm pleased to see it break through the fruit. Peppery finish, with a hint of toffee. Read More

  • Enkidu Petite Sirah Red Hills Lake County Diener Ranch 2003

Deep dark fruit nose, but the palate is really soft/silky on the attack. Pretty soon that tar and leather kicks in with just a touch of fruit. A very intriguing wine that finishes with a tannic kick. Read More

  • In order to fully appreciate your wine experience, it's extremely important to understand the characteristics of grapes and how they create a wine's overall personality.  After all, a red grape does not just make a red wine.  One can certainly see this effect when tasting a Cabernet Sauvignon next to a Pinot Noir.  We say a wine is varietally co...
