AVA, in Amador County, was settled in 1849 and quickly became a supply centre for the surrounding gold mining camps. However, when the gold began to disappear, so did the people. Settlers had planted vines, which were abundant by the late 1800s. After this section of the Mother Lode experienced mass exodus, it was not until the early 1970s that Fiddletown’s loam soil sported vines again. Today, most of the vineyards are on the region’s southern and western hills. They produce grapes that are less forceful in alcohol with more elegant fruit character than the rest of the valley. The appellation is responsible for about 20% of Amador's production. Sitting between 1,500-2,500 feet elevation, this appellation was recognized as distinct from its surroundings by the BATF in November, 1983. – Description from Appellation America (view original content)

    Snoothrank:

A little tarry on the nose and spicy with cigar wrapper nuances and a fine oak overlay. In the mouth one finds nice blackberry fruit, bit of herb all nice and bright and zesty with good richness, good length, and impressive depth. Air brings out the tobacco on the palate along with that gentle spice note all layered under rather rich and juicy r... Read More

  • Easton Zinfandel Old Vine Rinaldi Vineyard Fiddletown 2010

    Snoothrank:

Earthy top notes on the nose are joined by sweet cherry stone fruit and light herbal shadings. Theres a lovely suggestion of sweetness on entry, not sugar, just a wonderful ripeness of fruit and this is all about small berry fruit. On the mid-palate the tannins are a bit intrusive, adding firmness to the wild berry fruit that lays over a lovely ... Read More
