Fendant is the local name given to the white Chasselas varietal in the Valais canton of western Switzerland. Valais is the largest wine region in Switzerland, and Fendant runs a close second in terms of production here behind Pinot Noir. Fendant produces a white, dry, slightly fruity wine that is considered an ideal pairing for the regional specialties fondue and raclette.
