Tarragona is located in the Catalonia region of northern Spain. It is divided into two sections: The largest expanse is along the Mediterranean just south of Penedes, and the other is further inland. The reason for this division is the the creation of the D.O. Montsant, which was separated from the rest of Tarragona in 2001.

The region began as far back as the Roman era, known for its sweet wines from late harvest Garnacha and Moscatel.  More recently the Cava grapes, Paralleda, Xarel-lo and Macabeo have been grown and sourced to Penedes Cava production.

Garnacha is made into rosado and in blends with Cariñena. Ull de Llebre (Tempranillo), Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot are also grown.

Tarragona on Snooth

  • Hi GregT,At first, I thought you were just a joker who just likes to bust my ... a vineyard in Monstant near Tarragona Spain.  I am more experienced with the business side of it than the wine side.  I don't expect to quit my day job for it but if I can make some money from it and literally enjoy the fruits of my labor than why not?  So I guess... • Capcanes El Raval Montsant 2011

    Snoothrank:

80% Garnacha, 20% Carignan Inky and mineral scented on the nose with a nice base of leathery dried strawberry fruit flecked with white pepper and a bit of a grilled meaty base note. A little sweet on entry, though with enough acid to help keep this fresh in the mouth. The texture is lovely, soft and clear in the mouth with some attractive inky... Read More

  • Pinyolet Seleccion 2009

    Snoothrank:

80% Garnacha, 20% Carignan Smoky and a bit funky on the nose and quite leathery like an old catchers mitt. This gains nice white pepper spice and floral tones with some air but remains somewhat low key on the nose. Very smooth and polished, another wine that sneaks across the palate with its near perfect balance and integration of acid and tanni... Read More
