Catalunya Wine

Catalunya (Catalonia in Spanish) is located in the north-east of the Iberian Peninsula and is home to many famous Spanish subregions. It is in an ideal location for wine making thanks to a diverse climate. The coast is known for dry and hot summers and mild winters (the Mediterranean climate). Wine has been produced here since the time of the Romans, who started planting and producing grapes near Tarragona (which was the Iberian capital at the time). • Celler Cal Pla Grenache Blend Priorat Black Slate Porrera 2011

    Snoothrank:

This is a big chewy Spanish red from the Priorat region. Loads of dark red and black fruit combined with medium acidity and light fine grained tannins. There's tar and smoke combining with the dark fruit that is fairly well rounded overall, though not for the faint of heart. Read More

  • Espelt Viticultors Garnacha Old Vines 2012

    Snoothrank:

A bit reticent on the nose with some pencil shavings lurking under candied cherry fruit with a hint of violet adding some detail. Shows a bit of shoe polish as well. Very smooth and polished in the mouth with modest fine grained tannins and slightly zesty acids helping to frame low key and simple grapey, black cherry, mulberry accented fruit. Sm... Read More

  • Capcanes El Raval Montsant 2011

    Snoothrank:

80% Garnacha, 20% Carignan Inky and mineral scented on the nose with a nice base of leathery dried strawberry fruit flecked with white pepper and a bit of a grilled meaty base note. A little sweet on entry, though with enough acid to help keep this fresh in the mouth. The texture is lovely, soft and clear in the mouth with some attractive inky... Read More
