Catalunya Wine

Catalunya (Catalonia in Spanish) is located in the north-east of the Iberian Peninsula and is home to many famous Spanish subregions. It is in an ideal location for wine making thanks to a diverse climate. The coast is known for dry and hot summers and mild winters (the Mediterranean climate). Inland It is very hot in the summer and cold in the Winter (the Mediterranean Continental climate). And north to the Pyrenees has a climate typical of high mountain regions with very cold and snowy winters and hot summers with abundant rainfall.
 
Wine has been produced here since the time of the Romans, who started planting and producing grapes near Tarragona (which was the Iberian capital at the time). Since then, the winemaking region spread and flourished until the 19th century Phylloxera crisis killed most of the red grapes grown there.

Excellent wine. Nice floral nose with elements of mint. Nice tannic structure and a solid balance of fruit and spice on the palate. Shows what the producers in Monstant can do for reasonable prices.

A really fantastic wine. Very heavy tart fruit on the nose - a spicy rhubarb. Wonderful attack with a mixture of smoky berries and a very distinct finish. This wine is big and cannot be drunk on its own. Pair with steak.
