Catalunya Wine

Catalunya (Catalonia in Spanish) is located in the north-east of the Iberian Peninsula and is home to many famous Spanish subregions. • Jaume Serra Chardonnay Penedès 2012

Grabbed this one on a whim... seemed about right for the 30 degree heat; the pale straw colour is accented by good mousse (5 minutes plus and counting) with apple and pear on the nose. Entry is full of smooth, quite balanced grapefruit citrus - a refreshing draft for the price. Superb value. 87 points Read More

  • Torres Viña Esmeralda 2013

This wine is about 5 euros in Spain - an unbelievable bargain by North American standards. The nose is full of wild rose and other sweet garden flowers filled in by apricot and peach. The entry is quite smooth and luscious with more soft fruit such as peach and maybe a bit of lychee nut. Would pair nicely with seafood - especially cuttlefish ... Read More

  • L'Agnet 2010

This very typical Priorat has gobs of coffee, deep red fruit and plenty of sediment - the latter being a product of sitting in the supermarkets of Barcelona a bit longer than anticipated by the producer. Good Priorat intensity on the nose and palate and consequently an excellent value. 88 points. Read More
