Ribera Del Duero Wine

This region is located within Castilla y Leon and runs along the Duero River. The area concentrates mainly on red wines starring Tinto Fino (a.k.a. Tinto del Pais, a.k.a. Tempranillo). This is customarily blended with indigenous Garnacha and other Spanish-grown French grapes such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Malbec and Merlot. The only white grape produced is Albillo, which is mostly consumed locally.

The area has been producing wines for many centuries, since the Roman era. Up until the 1970’s, bodega Vega Sicilia hogged most of the spotlight until the 1980’s when Alejandro Fernandez and his bodega Pesquera gained attention, with others cult favorites like Pingus and Abadia Retuerta soon to follow. Now the region consists of a mix of traditional wine-making to more modern experimentation as well as accessible, quality table wines.

Ribera Del Duero on Snooth

  • Finca Torremilanos Ribera del Duero Montecastrillo Rosado 2012

    Snoothrank:

The nose of this wine has a distinct set of floral overtones, mixed with a bit of fresh citrus, green grass and a bit of oak. The taste is really quite nice, with flavors of green apple, and a hint of citrus up front, which gives way to some lovely green herbs and oak midpalate. The finish on this wine is super dry, with nicely structured tann... Read More

  • Matarromera Ribera del Duero Crianza 2008

    Snoothrank:

This wine has a lovely deep ruby color in the glass. I've let this one breathe a bit, it's now been opened for a few hours, and the nose presents some lovely aromas of leather, oak, ripe berries and some licorice and vanilla notes. The taste is quite nice, with some wonderful ripe fruit up front, blackberries, plum, and some nice toasted oak a... Read More

    Snoothrank:

Deep red color. On the nose some cherry, dark fruits and hints of vanilla. For the palate I pick up dark fruits along with a hint of coffee and vanilla. The tannins are there but not highly tannic. Nice medium finish. Should be a great food wine but also interesting on is own. Read More

For the 2011 Malleolus Ribera del Duero, the wine is 100% Tempranillo that is a nice deep purple color in the glass. The nose is somewhat fruity, with notes of blackberry and plum, balanced with some mint notes, and rich vanilla and tobacco aromas. • Bodegas Cuevas Jimenez Ferratus A0 2012

    Snoothrank:

The nose showed intense red berry, ginger, hints minerals, dark earth and woodland tones. On the palate, it was silky smooth with balanced acidity, ripe dark fruits and herbs accentuated by a hint of heat. The palate staining finish lasted long with blackberry and spice. Again, the alcohol peaks out a bit on the finish yet its not dramatic, r... Read More
